59 Day 58: The Scum Is Caring (1/2)

”Err... Brother He...?” Bao Tian called and looked at He Yin's pale face and round, dark eyes. He looked like a worn out panda that escaped from the hunters in the forest.

And that hunter is the peacefully sleeping Song Sheng who's sitting on He Yin's back. Yes. Song Sheng is sitting while peacefully sleeping, and on He Yin's back as He Yin do push ups.

He Yin gritted his teeth as he pushed himself up, bearing his weight and Song Sheng's weight. ”Damn it...” he cursed, sweating profusely.

The imaginary bubble on Song Sheng's nose popped up. Just from the 'magic' words 'damn it', he woke up.

He looked at He Yin below him, his face blank. ”What number are you?” he asked, referring to how many times He Yin pushed up.

”... 80 – ” He Yin answered.

Song Sheng cut him off. ”Add 100 – ” he said.

”Alright! I lied!” He Yin said as he glared at Song Sheng. ”I'm still at 30 – ”

”Add 150 – ” Song Sheng said, ignoring He Yin.

The others looked at He Yin, full of pity.

He Yin's face paled and gritted his teeth as he pushed himself up harder, pissed. Song Sheng sitting on his back almost fell. But, Song Sheng moved his body to the side, opposite to the direction where he's falling.

Their mouth went 'O' when Song Sheng didn't fall.

He Yin, who purposefully did it to make Song Sheng fall, can't help but gape in disbelief at the guy on his back. Just what kind of person is this guy? He thought. He's superman!

Like every time, he could only grit his teeth and continue the harsh training Song Sheng gave him.

”Ah!” He Yin sighed as he submerged himself on the hot water.

”You okay, Brother He?” a team member asked.

They're all done for their training for the day. As expected, the newbie He Yin is the most tired.

”How can I be?” He Yin asked back, frowning.

They grimaced.

”Brother He.” Bao Tian called. ”Even if Instructor Song is hard on you, but he does it for your sake.” He told him.

He Yin's brows raised, but he didn't speak.

Bao Tian continued. ”Do you feel like your body is stronger now?” he asked.

He Yin pursed his lips, then stretched his limbs. Sure enough, his muscles became more flexible.

Seeing He Yin's silent reaction, Bao Tian smiled. ”Instructor Song may be harsh and cold, but he's the most caring in the team.” He said.

He Yin looked at Bao Tian, surprised.

Bao Tian laughed. ”Instructor Song just shows his cold face, but he's actually worried. With our line of work, he could only be harsh to us so that we can't see he's worried for us.” he smiled. ”He may be the strongest, stronger than Supervisor Song, but – ” he said, then his smile faded. ” – he's the most fragile among us.” he said.

”'fragile'?” He Yin asked.

”Instructor Song is also weak once.” A team member answered. ”He's always compared to his elder brother. When Instructor Song joined the team, the comparison between the brothers grew even more. That time, Supervisor Song is the instructor. One time, the brothers had a confrontation. There, Instructor Song realized what Supervisor Song's feeling – worried to death because his younger brother entered a dangerous work like his. Then, Instructor Song became cold, but he also became stronger.” He explained. ”And now, Instructor Song just continues to become stronger.” He finished.

The other members nodded, inspired by the Song brothers' story.

He Yin frowned. ”So you're saying that guy is worried about me?” he asked, referring to Song Sheng.

Just thinking of that, it makes him cringe. He grimaced.

Bao Tian laughed seeing his expression. ”Why don't you ask him?” he asked. ”You can go to his quarters and ask him directly.” He told him.

”Ah?” He Yin said and looked at Bao Tian. ”His quarters?” he asked, referring to Song Sheng's room.

Bao Tian nodded. ”Yes.” He said. ”Instructor Song's room in the dorm.” He answered.

”But... wasn't it...?” He Yin asked, referring to Song Sheng's room got wrecked by the earthquake.

That was what Song Sheng told him last night.

”Hm? Ah. Yes.” Bao Tian said. ”It was renovated.” He told him.

He Yin's eyes went wide.

As if not enough, Bao Tian added. ”He's coming back to his quarters tonight after camping last night.” He said.

Dark lines covered He Yin's face.

”Brother He? You okay?” he asked.

”Yeah.” He Yin answered, his face blank. ”I'll be visiting him to his quarters later.” He said and forced a smile, his face looked like he had eaten a fly.

Damn Sheng... you're as crafty as what you were in the previous life! He thought, remembered his shotgun marriage with Ci Sheng in their previous life.

The door silently opened and the room was dark. But, the moon is bright tonight, illuminating the dark room, making one see the interior of the room.

It's surprisingly empty, except from a man standing in the middle, alone.

He Yin closed the door as silent as he opened it. ”Why the hell do you hate me so much?” he asked at Song Sheng who's looking outside the glass wall. ”I remember I have never offended you.” He added and leaned on the door.

Song Sheng slowly turned to He Yin, his face against the light and so He Yin couldn't see the expression he's wearing. ”You're not cut out for this job.” He said. ”Quit.” He told him.

As much as I want to. He Yin thought, but didn't answer. Why did he continue to stay on this team...? Because it was the mission the system gave him.

”Player. Player.” A voice called inside He Yin's mind that woke him up.

He slowly opened his eyes and saw a white ceiling. He's in the hospital.

”Player is awake now. The system will give the player's mission.” It said.

Before He Yin could speak, the voice continued.

”The story is entitled The Disastrous Country.” It started. ”The country is plagued by all kinds – natural disasters to man – made disasters (epidemic).” It said. ”The story so far is that the south suffered level 10 magnitude earthquake followed by a tsunami. The north is still experiencing heavy snowstorms. Now – ” it said and the voice became serious. ” – the player's mission is to join the team because of your strong sense of justice and strong sense of camaraderie and kindness – ” it paused, waiting for He Yin's reaction.

He Yin's face is just blank, already shocked by the great change of the genre of the story he was in.

” – the player, character He Yin, will join the Fourscapes Team and help them until the protagonist fulfill his fate and save the whole country.” It finished.

Dark lines covered He Yin's face. Forget his strong sense of justice and whatnot. Heck, he didn't even speak a single word relating to camaraderie and kindness before Bao Tian, the protagonist, scouted him to join their team!

It's not justice, camaraderie or whatnot. It's just because of my face and 'luck' that they scouted me. He Yin thought bitterly.

He recovered his composure and looked at Song Sheng. ”Just a word from you and I will quit?” he said. ”How can I call myself a man?” he asked and smiled.

Song Sheng's voice went cold. ”This isn't about pride – ” he said.

He Yin's face went serious. ”You bloody hell know I won't quit.” He told him.

Song Sheng didn't answer.

He Yin's lip curled up. ”Are you worried about me?” he asked and grinned at Song Sheng.

The moonlight moved and Song Sheng's face that was covered by the darkness was lit up. His face may be blank but his voice is surprisingly soft when he answered.

”Did Bao Tian and the others tell you?” he asked. When He Yin didn't answer, he sighed and sat on the back of the sofa. ”You must have already heard, too, about me when I was starting in this team, like you are now.” he said.

He Yin nodded and walked towards Song Sheng.

”Then... you must understand me.” he said and turned to He Yin when He Yin reached him. His dark eyes are soft and warm. ”You have to quit.” He told him, his voice gentle now.

”Why?” He Yin asked.

”... you're not like me.” Song Sheng answered, then looked away. ”You can never become a cold person like me.” he told him.

He Yin stared at him for a long time before he spoke. ”... it's not only becoming cold that could make you strong.” He told him.

Song Sheng's eyes went wide and he looked at He Yin. He Yin smiled at him.

Song Sheng's face went red and he looked away. ”Whatever.” He told him, frowning. His face, although cold, is burning red.

He Yin chuckled and sat beside Song Sheng. ”So. Why did you went to my room last night?” he asked and looked at Song Sheng.

When Song Sheng didn't answer, he looked at him. His eyes met Song Sheng's eyes that's filled with different emotions.

As the clouds covered the bright moon, two pairs of lips met in the darkness.

He Yin caressed Song Sheng's smooth and fair burning cheeks as Song Sheng wrapped his arms around He Yin's neck, deepening the kiss. He Yin, though surprised by the aggressiveness of Song Sheng, returned with the same intensity Song Sheng kissing him.

He Yin's about to open Song Sheng's shirt when Song Sheng stopped him. ”Wait!” he said and held He Yin's hands, his face so red.
