Chapter 11 (2/2)
Leticia murmured.
As expected, she is cute and kind to listen to.
Bastian smiled gladly at the thought.
But the next moment, the little Mistress said something unexpected.
“Then what does the Mistress of the Lord have to do when he leaves?”
“What?”
“You let me stay here, you all call me Madam and Mistress like it’s customary. Which makes me want to do what I have to do.”
Bastian was dazed for a moment.
Soon after, she burst into laughter.
“Oh my God! Now I see you’re ‘Karahan’, aren’t you?”
“Karahan? What’s that?”
“It’s a dialect of the North. It means that you are not just a scarecrow or puppet lord, but a real one.” Bastian said.
“In any case, you have to think of responsibilities first. You have to mind others. People will be curious about what you should do during numerous events. That’s really great, Mistress.”
Her earnest words went to Leticia’s heart. It seems like it created a calm ripple that had never been there before.
“Is that so? So what would a ‘Karahan’ do?”
Leticia asked with a sparkle in her eyes. Bastian replied with her dependable face and smile.
“The Lord and Lady, he and his wife are the masters of the land. If one of them isn’t in the castle, the other one keeps the castle safe.”
“Protecting the castle’s safety.”
Leticia followed suit.
It was a good story.
However, her face was filled with anxiety when she thought that she had not yet explored this large castle.
‘How do I keep up with it when I haven’t finished my quest?’
There was no way Bastian didn’t know the inside of the castle.
She held back her laughter so much that her jaw ached. Eventually, she patted the Mistress’s head with her big hand.
“That’s what I mean. I don’t ask you to do a fabulous job, it’s very simple. What I want you to do is something you can do.”
She bent her knees and said looking into Leticia’s eyes.
“First of all, would you like to make a knot of promise?”
“What’s that?”
“It’s a custom in the North. They can return safely from the battlefield by hanging handmade a knot for your husband’s sword.”
“You have that kind of custom?”
“Yes. The fear of the northern men is not death, but never coming back. The Lord is from the North, so he will feel the same. If you give him a knot, even if he pretends that he doesn’t want it, I know he’ll feel happy.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I know!”
Leticia laughed at Bastian’s words.
“I want to make a knot then, do you know how to do it?”
“Oh, now that’s the problem. I don’t know how because I only saw it once.”
The two then descend to the tower.
When she went to the maids and asked them, they said they know how to do it and they were willing to teach her.
It’s good to have something to focus on.
While Leticia was in the middle of knot making, the people of the castle prepared for the wedding.
There was a white-haired priest who lived outside the castle that visited every single day.
Sometimes the children ensembles would practice and the chorus would resound, it all sounded beautiful.
The days passed peacefully.
“Like this. Spin it around and bite it with your teeth… Ah, I have to get back now.”
After dinner, they gathered in the hall as usual. She made a knot under the guidance of the maids.
Bastian came with various kinds of boots, saying it had nothing to do with her work.
Leticia ate a lot of meat pies that Casaro baked for her, so she was very full. The fireplace was just moderately warm.
Is this happiness?
It was then when she was having fun with her hands without worrying.
Clang clang clang!
Suddenly a loud ringing bell resounded loudly.
The ten towers around the vicinity were ringing the bells all at the same time.
There was a scream that followed.
“Attack!”
“The monsters attacked!”
What? Monsters?
Everyone was surprised.
