Chapter 256 - Father And Daughter (1/2)

”A woman?” the secretary exclaimed in confusion as her eyes paused on Halia's body.

Morton followed his secretary's gaze and quickly looked away awkwardly when he realized she was looking directly at Halia's chest., ”Ahem, Mars was dressed as a man because she was working closely with Roy. We all know how inappropriate Roy can be around beautiful women, so I allowed it.”

A junior lawyer quickly said, ”Oh yes, back when I was his assistant he used to make me drink with him every night. Luckily, my boyfriend eventually stepped in and pulled me away.”

The HR manager immediately chimed in, ”I haven't worn a skirt since I started working here because he kept staring at my legs. I can finally relax now.”

Meanwhile, Morton's secretary continued to look at Halia in disbelief, ”I must admit, Roy was a bit sleazy, but he never actually harrassed or inappropriately touched anyone. Was it necessary to dress up as a man?”

”You know he's harmless because you worked with him for a long time, but for someone that's new to the office, he could be quite intimidating. One can never be too safe,” Morton explained.

Everyone quickly nodded their heads and agreed.

But, the secretary was not convinced as she gripped onto the phone in her hand.

Yesterday, she had received a message from a number she trusted: 'Keep your eye on Mars Wu, I think he's a spy...'

When she first received the message, she was cautious so she deliberately stayed back to keep an eye on the legal assistant. But, when she saw Morton almost kissing him in his office, she quickly brushed away her suspicions. Mars wasn't a spy, he was obviously there to seduce Morton.

But now that Mars was standing in front of her as a girl, her suspicions arose again. She had let her guard down too easily. The entire thing was much too farfetched and coincidental. What normal person would dress up as the opposite s.e.x just for a job? And how did she get past HR? Most importantly, Mars was working closely with Roy when he was caught.

Morton bought the woman's story, but she didn't.

As soon as everyone returned to their desks, she pulled out a file from her bottom drawer and looked at it nervously with guilt.

She had actually started working with Roy recently. She didn't agree at first, but the man blackmailed her and she was forced to secretly slip doc.u.ments for Morton to sign. When she failed, he even forced her to forge the signatures. But, Morton was so busy, he never noticed.

The file in her hands had evidence that proved her involvement. She had snuck it out of Roy's office before the police raided it. If anyone saw it, she would be ruined. So, while no one was looking, she slipped the file under her jacket and headed for the rooftop. She had to burn it.

The rooftop was windy so it was hard to get a fire started at first, but the secretary quickly found a corner with a metal trash can. This was perfect.

She pulled the file out from under her jacket and threw it into the trash can. She then grabbed her lighter.

But...just as she ignited her lighter, she felt a hand grab onto her arm. ”What are you doing?” a familiar voice asked.

The secretary quickly turned around nervously and looked into the eyes of the last person she wanted to see. ”Mars,” she gasped in surprise.

A moment ago, Halia had seen the secretary sneak into the stairwell suspiciously, so she decided to follow her.

”Are you trying to burn something?” Halia asked as she glanced down at the file in the trash can.

The secretary saw Halia's gaze and immediately tried to pull her arm free. All she had to do was burn the file and there would be no evidence left. It would her word against Halia's.

But, Halia held onto the woman firmly.

At that moment, another person appeared on the rooftop. ”What's happening up here?” a cold voice yelled.

The secretary looked towards the voice and froze.
