Chapter 27 - Abandoned Hospital (11) (1/2)

Cheng Zhi Chu stared at the silver coin in his hand with a stiff expression. For a long time, he didn’t speak. It was as if he had received a major blow.

The Meng sisters watching on the side didn’t understand this reaction of his. They asked curiously: “This should be a weapon, right? What’s wrong? Is its’ property bad? What’s its practical level?”

“…………It’s A.” Cheng Zhi Chu replied after a moment of silence.

“A?”

The two sisters exclaimed in a small voice. The eyes that looked at the silver coin had completely changed. Their own weapons were only of C level and they were both something that they had received from the beginner’s package.

Level A weapons are like similar levelled abilities and cursed items and are very rare. If you didn’t get it through the lottery and want to try to synthesize one using weapon fragments, it would require at least a thousand fragments or more. To collect enough weapon fragments, it would require a lot of time.

If they were to get an A levelled weapon, they would probably have a gigantic smile on their faces even while they’re sleeping so they couldn’t understand why Cheng Zhi Chu would have such a grim expression.

Was there something wrong with this weapon? Indeed, coin style weapons are rare. Perhaps it is something that is inconvenient to use or maybe it’s because it has many restrictions……

The two sisters quietly made their guesses, but they didn’t move to ask any further questions. After all, this is a private matter and outsiders shouldn’t try to probe too much.

Cheng Zhi Chu looked speechlessly at the silver coin for a moment. He then decided to act as if nothing had happened and just directly throw the silver coin into his bag.

He naturally also knew about how rare and precious A levelled weapons are. Even with the help of the luck potion, it was almost impossible to synthesize one with only one hundred weapon fragments. If this had happened before he had attempted the lottery, he definitely wouldn’t believe that such a thing would happen to him.

But when he got the Joker’s Coin and he felt the faint hint of twisted wickedness and temptation coming from it, he came to an understanding. Only someone like him would be able to be so “lucky”.

It’s not because he is very lucky. It was the complete opposite. It’s because he’s too unlucky; the type that couldn’t even be counteracted by luck potions, that he couldn’t even get a normal weapon that he could use to protect himself and instead got a problematic weapon with properties similar to a cursed item.

If a normal person was to use the Joker’s Coin and if they used a luck potion on top of that, they would probably have a 70 or 80 percent chance of throwing a clown’s face but if he was the one to use it………he probably won’t be able to see what the clown’s face looks like in his entire lifetime.

And the most terrible thing about this silver coin was the fact that if you threw the devil’s face, you would be riddled with misfortune. Every time you throw the coin, the chance of getting the devil’s side would not simply be a 50:50 chance. The more you throw it, the greater the chance of getting the devil’s face.

If you threw it obsessively, it would most likely lead to a vicious cycle. Furthermore, ten consecutive appearances of the devil’s face would lead to the collapse of the instance. Although it may sound unlikely, when combined with how unlucky he is, it is something that is very likely to happen.

Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu couldn’t help but shudder.

Maybe the throws won’t even be throws performed by the holder themselves. It’s likely that it may be because they tripped and fell, and the coin would roll onto the devil’s side on its own ten times in a row.

What’s more, this silver coin also had a very strange power that entices and allures the holder to throw and use it. Even if there is a risk of being doomed with misfortune, they wouldn’t stop and would instead become more and more crazily obsessed to the point that they would entrust everything to the coin.

However, there wasn’t any change to Cheng Zhi Chu’s mood when he held this coin. Even when he stored the coin away, he continued to remain expressionless.

He was very aware of how dark his expression must be at this very moment. It was like his heart was dead and he didn’t feel any temptations in his heart.

After storing the coin away, Cheng Zhi Chu and Bai Yi once again returned to the freezer cabinet. Because they were preoccupied by Xie Yuan Huai’s name card earlier, they had not yet opened the cabinet and investigated it.

As for the cabinet that Ji Yun Xiao and the others were supposed to check, they had already confirmed that it was the same cabinet that the red-clothed female corpse had climbed into and the very same cabinet in which the bear had retrieved the key from.

“I’ll open it.”

Bai Yi gave Cheng Zhi Chu a smile and asked him to step back before he slowly pulled open the cabinet door so that there was a small gap.

Cheng Zhi Chu’s heart tensed up as he feared that something would happen but fortunately nothing happened throughout the entire process of Bai Yi opening the cabinet.

“Creeaaak————-”

Bai Yi’s eyes looked down inside the cabinet and he pulled at it until about half of it was revealed when his movements suddenly stopped. The fingers holding onto the handle tightened and his expression also turned dark.

“What’s wrong?”

Cheng Zhi Chu and the others came over and looked inside the cabinet. When they looked in, they were all stunned. The Meng sisters looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu and saw that his face was completely pale.

[Xiao Chu.]

[Xiao Chu.]

[Xiao Chu, Xiao Chu….]

[Cheng Zhi Chu……..]

There was nothing inside, but it was covered in dark red words. Like it was written with a finger coated in fresh blood, the inside was densely covered in Cheng Zhi Chu’s name.

Some of the writings were neat and clear, others were crooked and messy. There were a few that had a faint tremor in it, like it was written onto the cabinet while the writer was in extreme agony. If you looked closer, you could even see that some of them were engraved into the cabinet and there were faint nail scratches next to it.

“My god………..”

The Meng sisters felt goose bumps form all over their body. It was just too scary.

“Don’t look.”

Bai Yi said in a low voice and then closed the cabinet. His eyes emitted icy cold light.

He looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu who appeared to be a little scared. He reached out and rubbed his head before softening his voice and saying: “Don’t worry. Don’t be scared.”

“………..Okay.”

To what extent is Xie Yuan Huai obsessed about him……

Cheng Zhi Chu’s nodding gesture was a little stiff, but it wasn’t completely because of the names written inside the cabinet. A part of it was also because Bai Yi’s hand was on his head. It made him think back to the earlier incident when his heart started to race because of Bai Yi and he once again felt guilty.

Don’t think about it. It’s no big deal. He’s just a little embarrassed because he isn’t used to being so intimate with Bai Yi. If it was someone else, he would also react the same way.

Besides, they are two very straight men. So what if he kissed his hand? Even if they kissed they…….Fuck. That’s not right. That’s a big deal………..

These thoughts flashed through Cheng Zhi Chu’s mind. He shook his head and quickly dispelled these ridiculous thoughts.

With no other significant things left in the mortuary, Cheng Zhi Chu and the others passed through the rows and rows of freezer cabinets and walked over to the other exit of the underground passage.

Cheng Zhi Chu had the key for this door in his possession, so he took out the key, inserted it and slowly pushed the door open.

It was very dark outside. He turned on his flashlight and carefully stuck his head out and looked around. The other end of this passage should be the inpatient department.

The area that was illuminated by the flashlight revealed a narrow set of steps. Zhi Chu guessed that the layout of it should be similar to those of the outpatient department. After going out, they should be on the first floor of the inpatient department.

Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu held onto his flashlight and took a step out onto the smooth tiled floor. At this moment, he suddenly heard a ‘pa’ and the light above his head suddenly lit up illuminating his surroundings.

“This, this place is……”

Meng Ke’s voice trembled a little and it could be heard coming from behind Cheng Zhi Chu.

Cheng Zhi Chu felt that something wasn’t right. Earlier, the person that was closest to him should be Bai Yi and Meng Ke was a little further away but now her voice seemed to be too close, like she was standing right next to him.

He subconsciously glanced behind him, and his eyes instantly widened before he quickly turned completely around.

Meng Ke looked around her. She was originally quite uneasy and, after seeing Cheng Zhi Chu look over in her direction with a shocked expression, she couldn’t help but look next to her only to see that her sister had disappeared. Even Bai Yi and Ji Yun Xiao were nowhere in sight!

“Where’s Xin Xin and the others?”

Meng Ke’s face was pale, and her entire body started to tremble: “Also, this place- It doesn’t seem like the place we were in earlier……..”

Cheng Zhi Chu also noticed that this place wasn’t the stairwell that they saw earlier. Instead, it was a long corridor.

The corridor was dimly lit and there were some beds and wheelchairs scattered about. On both sides were wards and several of the doors were open revealing its pitch-black interior. At a location further away from them was the waiting area for the elevator. Just above the elevator, was a sign that was clearly labelled “F9”.

He and Meng Ke had unexpectedly entered the mysterious ninth floor of the inpatient department!

The blood in Cheng Zhi Chu’s body went cold. At this moment, the ring on his finger suddenly got hotter and the bear in his pocket bared its teeth at the elevator while letting out a low snarl.

“Clack, clack…….Ding————–”

The elevators floor indicator suddenly started to move. After skipping through a few numbers, it eventually stopped at ‘9’ before the elevator stopped. The door opened and over a dozen nurses walked out from within the elevator.

The nurses were all neatly dressed but their white nurses’ gowns were stained with blood. Their faces were featureless, like smooth marble, and long chains hung from their necks. The chains dragged across the ground and connected them together such that they are all bounded as a group.

The nurse at the front pushed a small trolley with various bottles and jars filled with strange dark-red liquids as well as a tangled mess of infusion tubes.

“Why are you here? It’s late, why aren’t you back in your own wards?”
