Chapter 26 - Abandoned Hospital (10) (1/2)
<Xiao Chu……..>
The faint call of his name came from the depths of his memory. That illusionary figure before him stood in a pure white space and only revealed the pale porcelain-like lower half of his face. His voice spoke slowly with a gentle sigh.
<Do you still remember me?>
“Brother Yuan Huai……..”
Cheng Zhi Chu’s eyes were empty and unfocussed. At this moment he had become completely immersed in this hallucination. Like he had fallen into a dream, he couldn’t wake up.
<Good Xiao Chu. I knew you wouldn’t forget about me.>
<It must be because they hid you, that you didn’t come to find me.>
<Now that everyone else is gone, you really came back.>
<Come here Xiao Chu. Come to my side.>
The figure that only had a faint online slowly extended his hand to him.
As if he was in endless daze, Cheng Zhi Chu also unconsciously reached his own hand out to hold it, but he suddenly heard something falling and making a very soft sound.
Cheng Zhi Chu was surprised, and he instantly woke up from the illusion. With his forehead covered in cold sweat, he loudly gasped for air.
He saw that the card that he was holding onto had fallen to the ground and that the words “Xie Yuan Huai” had become a little faint. A strong chill ran through his back causing him to shiver in fear.
Something wasn’t right with this card. Earlier, it was like he was completely entranced. He didn’t have even a little bit of his own consciousness.
If he had taken that man’s hand earlier, he didn’t know what would have happened to him……..
As this thought flashed across Cheng Zhi Chu’s mind, he moved his gaze and saw that his hand was currently being held tightly by another long and slender hand. The moment his saw this he felt his heart almost fly out of his throat.
Fortunately, Cheng Zhi Chu immediately realised that it was Bai Yi’s hand. He guessed that it was probably Bai Yi who had pried open his hand and had taken the card away. Once again, he was saved by Bai Yi.
Realising this, Cheng Zhi Chu felt both ashamed and moved. Just as he wanted to give Bai Yi his thanks, he suddenly felt Bai Yi use his thumb to rub the centre of his palm. He then lifted his hand and dropped a soft kiss onto it.
“………”
Cheng Zhi Chu’s eyes widened. His heart suddenly skipped a beat. He was completely stunned.
The soft lips pressed against the centre of his palm and it brought along with it an electric-like tingling sensation. There was also a hint of warmth and dampness which made him tremble and caused his breathing to become rough.
Bai Yi, this is……..What is he doing?
He’s kissing his hand……….?
His thoughts were very chaotic. His first reaction was thinking that perhaps Bai Yi was also under some type of hallucination or perhaps this was the only way that he could save him. In short, there must’ve been some sort of compelling reason for him so that he would…….kiss……
Although he did his best to convince himself that Bai Yi had kissed his hand because had his reasons, just the fact that he did it gave him a strong blow. For a long time, he couldn’t recover from this shock.
At this moment, Bai Yi had already raised his head. Seeing Cheng Zhi Chu’s frozen look, he thought that Cheng Zhi Chu was still immersed in his illusion and had not yet woken up let alone realise that he had kissed his hand.
His dark look returned to normal and he pressed down onto Cheng Zhi Chu’s shoulder. In a low voice he called out: “Zhi Chu.”
“………..Ah?”
Cheng Zhi Chu returned to his senses and raised his head slightly only to find himself looking straight into Bai Yi’s eyes.
Bai Yi’s dark eyes remained calm and deep like the deep sea under the night sky. Despite originally having a hint of coldness but, because of the tear mole at the corner of his eyes, it made it look a little seductive. At this moment, it was looking over at Cheng Zhi Chu with a hint of warmth.
“You’re awake? How are you feeling?” Bai Yi asked with concern. “Earlier you……….Zhi Chu?”
His words stopped when he saw Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly squat down and bury his head in his arms. Thinking that something wasn’t right, the smile at his lips faded and he asked with furrowed brows: “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. I just saw some hallucinations earlier and feel a little dizzy……..Let me stay like this for a bit.”
Cheng Zhi Chu desperately buried his head while his heart pounded loudly. He didn’t want Bai Yi to see his suddenly red and flushed face.
He didn’t understand why he would have such a reaction. This shouldn’t be it. Clearly Bai Yi isn’t a woman. It was just a friend kissing his hand so why is he getting so embarrassed……
That’s right. It’s definitely because he is not used to being so intimate with another person. If it was another person kissing his hand, he would definitely also be embarrassed so he shouldn’t think too much about it…….
Seeing that Bai Yi wasn’t reacting much to it; like nothing had happened, it just meant that the kiss earlier didn’t hold any special meaning or feelings behind it.
So why on earth did he kiss his hand? Was it because the hallucination would only be broken by a kiss? That’s impossible. It’s too stupid…….
Cheng Zhi Chu guessed widely and felt that the thought earlier was too far off the mark. But when he thought about it, his own ability was to kiss the boss to clear the instance so it wouldn’t be impossible for other similar skills to exist.
Forget it. Rather than being worried about it alone, he might as well ask Bai Yi directly. It’s pointless making aimless guesses about it. Anyway…….Anyway, both Bai Yi and himself are straight men. Even if anything happened, there would only be pure friendship between them.
Cheng Zhi Chu rubbed his face and, when he felt that the heat on his face had faded considerably, he supported himself using his knees and stood back up. With gentle eyes, Bai Yi reached out to help support him. He then gave him a small smile and ruffled his hair a little.
Bai Yi’s smile was overly good looking. It made the mental preparations that Cheng Zhi Chu had done earlier collapse immediately. With both his legs becoming soft, he almost fell back onto the ground.
………Enough. Hurry and wake up. This is Bai Yi. His heart shouldn’t be racing!!
Cheng Zhi Chu lowered his head and didn’t dare to look into the other persons eyes.
Because of his guilty conscience, he also didn’t dare ask Bai Yi why he had kissed his hand. He feared that the other party would sense something off about him.
He should know that Bai Yi absolutely hates gays. Earlier he had tolerated with his actions again and again but if he finds out that he has had some strange thoughts about him, he would definitely hate him!
“What’s wrong? Are you two okay?”
The Meng sisters and Ji Yun Xiao who stood a little further away looked over in concern.
Because Bai Yi’s back was facing towards them, they didn’t see Bai Yi’s earlier act of kissing Cheng Zhi Chu and only saw Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly squat down. Along with the strange phone call, the couldn’t help but worry that something had happened.
“No………..”
“BANG———”
Just as Cheng Zhi Chu was about to answer and change the topic, he was suddenly interrupted by a strange noise.
“Bang, bang……….”
The sound was very close to where the Meng sisters and Ji Yun Xiao stood. It was almost like it was right next to him.
“Bang, bang bang, bang,,,,,,,,,,”
Under the pale moonlight, the metal around the cabinets shook and it emitted the sound of something knocking against it.
The three of them were surprised and thought that something had fallen onto the freezer cabinets. They subconsciously took a few steps back but suddenly realised that the sound wasn’t actually coming from outside the cabinet but from within the cabinet itself.
“Bang————–bang bang! Boom! Boom———-“
The sound of the knocking on the cabinet seemed to get more and more agitated. From the gentle knocks, it had changed into a loud smash like something smashing heavily against the metal walls. One after another, it became more and more fierce and the entire cabinet started to shake.
“Bang bang, bang bang………..”
As if in response to this sound, from another corner of the mortuary, a similar sound was heard. It was like something was knocking against the cabinets.
At first it was just from one location but then it spread to the second and then the third. Gradually, one after another, and very densely, the mortuary became filled with the sound of banging coming from inside the cabinets.
“Zzzzzz…….zzzzzz……….”
Faint electricity sound could be heard from the lights above them. It suddenly started to flicker and become extremely unstable.
With a “pa”, the light furthest from them suddenly went out sending the area around it into darkness. Following that was the light next to it and it also went out after flickering a few times.
Just like when they had just walked into the mortuary, the lights that had turned on one by one were now getting extinguished one by one at an extremely fast rate.
“Zzz……….Pa.”
Within a few seconds, the last light was also extinguished. If not for them already turning on their flashlights, the room would have been completely immersed into pitch black darkness.
The Meng sisters trembled anxiously in the darkness fearing that something would suddenly rush over and attack them. They didn’t know what was going to happen next.
The sound of knocking against the cabinets had also stopped when the final light had gone out. The mortuary was completely silent, and they could even hear their own trembling breaths.
“Creaaakk————………..”
At this moment, Meng Xin hear with horror the sound of a cabinet door slowly being opened not far from where they stood———–There must be something coming out from it!
She couldn’t help but think back to what Cheng Zhi Chu had mentioned about the ghost stories that had been circulating around the hospital——–the red-clothed female corpse……..
“Big sister…….”
Meng Xin’s stretched out her trembling hand wanting to hold onto her sister Meng Ke’s hand but what she touched was something that was slippery and cold.
“Big……….”
Her mind went blank. Her hand shook terribly and the light from her flashlight swept to one side to illuminate a pair of pale, slightly rotten feet and the ends of a red dress that reached the calf.
“AHHHH————”
Meng Xin let out a loud scream. The hand holding onto the gun trembled violently to the point that she couldn’t aim stably. Despite the female corpse standing so close to her, she couldn’t fire accurately.
“Xin Xin!”
Meng Ke heard her scream and turned back in horror.
Earlier when the lights were about to go out, she and Ji Yun Xiao had run over to Cheng Zhi Chu and Bai Yi’s side. However, in that moment of panic, she had thought that Meng Xin would follow her and was completely unaware that she had remained rooted to the spot in fear and didn’t come over at all.
