Chapter 27 - Abandoned Hospital (11) (2/2)
The nurses that didn’t have any facial features rushed over to Cheng Zhi Chu and Meng Ke. Their chests reverberated a little and it let out young female voices. There however were no ups and downs to their tones and everyone’s voices sounded exactly the same. It was as if they were all the same and was just replicated multiple times.
“Hiss!”
The bear hissed fiercely at them, and suddenly jumped out of Cheng Zhi Chu’s pocket. It threw itself at the head nurse, but the nurse’s body was like an illusion and it just directly passed through her. It fell to the ground and tumbled around a few times.
“Let me check your names.”
The head nurse was completely unaffected by the bear. She bowed her head down, opened the roster and her pale finger slid down the paper.
“Your name is…….Cheng Zhi Chu.”
“Turns out, Zhi Chu is back. Welcome back to Guang Ai Hospital.”
“After not seeing you for a while, you’ve grown up. If ‘he’ saw this, he would definitely be very happy.”
“Murmur……murmur, murmur……”
The nurses’ bodies leaned forward slightly. It was as if everyone was trying to take a look at Cheng Zhi Chu and indecipherable speech could be heard coming from their chest.
“Since you’re back, I should give you back the thing that you’ve entrusted the hospital.”
The head nurse took out a dirty medical record and gently dropped it into Cheng Zhi Chu’s arms.
【Discovered a clue. You gain 50 experience points and 100 survival points.]
Cheng Zhi Chu stiffly accepted it but, before he had the chance to go through it, he saw that the head nurse had once again open the roster and was scanning through it. She seemingly assessed Meng Ke’s appearance for a while before looking down at the roster again.
After a few seconds, she suddenly raised her head. With a tone that was cold and had no hint of human emotions, she asked:
“Who are you?”
“Your name is not on the roster.”
“You don’t belong here.”
Meng Ke’s expression changed slightly, and she couldn’t help but take a step back. Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly had a very bad feeling. He grabbed her hand intending to run but the nurses behind the head nurse suddenly rushed over and used their chains to trip Meng Ke. They then tightened it around her ankle and directly dragged her over on the ground.
“Meng Ke!”
Cheng Zhi Chu was also being pressed down in the same place by the head nurse. He watched Meng Ke be grabbed by her ankles and dragged across to the elevator.
“Ah, no——-!”
Meng Ke was terrified. She screamed and cried desperately and scratched at the ground struggling to get out of the nurses’ grasp.
Her body was pulled across little by little and her mutilated fingertips left a fresh bloody trail behind. She was completely unable to stop the nurses and, little by little, she neared the elevator.
The small bear leapt amongst the nurses, but they were all like spirits and, no matter what it did, it couldn’t touch them. Again, and again, it could only fall onto the ground and snarl at the nurses.
……..No. I can’t let her die like this!
At this critical moment, Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly remembered the silver coin that he had received earlier. He didn’t give much of a thought to the chance of himself inflicting misfortune to himself when the coin appeared in his hand. He quickly threw it into the air and said in haste:
“Eliminate the nurses that has captured Meng Ke!”
“Shing———-Ding!”
The silver coin formed a silver-white arc in the air. Along with a crisp sound, it fell to the ground, spun around a few times before finally stopping in place.
It was the joker’s side.
[As you wish………]
A ghostly whisper could be heard in Cheng Zhi Chu’s mind.
The next minute, strange music started to play in the corridor and there was also the sound of a clown laughing out loud. With a ‘pa’, the bodies of the nurse that was holding onto Meng Ke’s ankle suddenly started to twist and morph into a colourful ball.
“Pa!” “Pa!”
This was then followed by several consecutive sounds and the four nurses closest to Meng Ke suddenly collapsed and transformed into playing cards and colourful ribbons which slowly fell to the ground. It looked just like a curtain call after a clown’s performance.
Now with five nurses fewer, the chains around the other nurses’ necks also fell.
They touched their empty necks with a look of confusion. After a while, they looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu and the head nurse. Reverberations at their chest grew bigger and bigger and, filled with grief and resentment, they immediately rushed over to the head nurse while letting out sharp cries.
The head nurse froze for a moment before pushing Cheng Zhi Chu away and then running away without looking back for a single moment. Those nurses didn’t pay any attention to the two living humans and just continued to chase after the head nurse. Soon, they disappeared in the distance along with the fading sounds of their cries.
“Huff, huff………..wu……….”
Meng Ke laid on the floor gasping for air. Her eyes were filled with tears and she still had not yet recovered from the shock from earlier.
“Are you okay?”
Cheng Zhi Chu picked up the silver coin and helped support the weak Meng Ke up over to one of the seats in the corridor. Meng Ke’s shoulders shuddered as she wept. With red eyes, she spoke unsteadily: “Thank, thank you for saving me……..If it weren’t for you, I would’ve already…..”
“It’s okay. Don’t be scared. We will definitely leave this place alive.”
Cheng Zhi Chu gently patted her head and spoke to her in a warm and comforting tone. Doing this, it reminded him of his own little sister. They are after all around the same age.
He reached into his pocket but unfortunately couldn’t find anything that could be used like a napkin. He could only just say a few more words of comfort.
“Wu…..”
The bear climbed up Cheng Zhi Chu’s leg and revealed a regretful expression as if it was blaming itself for not being much help.
“You already did great!” Cheng Zhi Chu held up the bear and said with a grin, “When we leave this instance, I’ll give you five more pieces of fried chicken and let you eat your fill!”
“Ao~” The bear was instantly elated.
Meng Ke sat on the chair with her head slightly bowed. Her sobs gradually became smaller and smaller and she eventually managed to calm back down. She clutched onto the ends of her clothes and fell silent for a moment before suddenly saying softly to Cheng Zhi Chu: “Sorry…..”
“Hm?” Cheng Zhi Chu was confused for a moment. “Why are you suddenly apologising to me?”
“To tell you the truth, I didn’t like you very much at first. Be-because you suddenly hugged Xiao Xiao and said those things. Although it was because you lost control of your body, I still felt a little….”
Meng Ke’s voice grew smaller and smaller and she seemed extremely remorseful.
Cheng Zhi Chu heard those words and was a little at loss. In fact, Meng Ke didn’t have to worry about that at all. He didn’t notice her thoughts about him and, what’s more, he is a rather good-tempered person so he definitely wouldn’t try to make things awkward with a young girl like her.
However, Meng Ke’s apology still made Cheng Zhi Chu’s heart feel warm. With those words, he didn’t feel like he had wasted his time and effort saving Meng Ke.
Speaking of which, it was rather fortunate that he wasn’t completely filled with bad luck and that the coin had actually landed on the joker’s side. If it was the devils side, they both would have probably died already……..
Something like that was just too despairing. Cheng Zhi Chu shook his head and quickly dispelled those unlucky thoughts. He then started to think about how they should go about escaping from the ninth floor.
Earlier, he had received a clue which was the medical record that the head nurse had given him.
Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu pulled out the medical records that he had just received and opened it.
The first three characters that appeared before his eyes were “Xie Yuan Huai”.
