So she looked straight into his eyes and hastily informed, ”I will be going to my old Penthouse today.” He met her eyes and she vehemently searched his face for a sign of disapproval.
Only when she saw a small trace of a smile on his face did she realize she was seeking his approval. But why was she seeking his approval? Did it matter to her what he thought? It did. For some unknown reason, it did.
She was confused yet petrified with her own thoughts. She knew in her heart if he wasn't pleased with her decision her half of resolve and interest will evaporate.
Did he feel the same way? Is that why he informed her of where ever he went? Because he cared about her and she cared about him in return. It was an estranged experience she had no way how to interpret.
”Sweetheart, send the staff first to clear out the place. It had been evacuated for too long. It will be dusty and who knows in what condition.” He admonished with a frown.
She pursed her lips but nodded after a thought-out, ”Perhaps I will take them but that really doesn't matter so not for that cause. I don't plan to stay there long. I will be selling the Penthouse anyway. Many know I once lived there, going back there to accommodating will be foolish.
I just want to pack some valuable stuff to transfer them here till I find a better place to put them too.” After a pause, she added, ”If you don't mind that is.”
Her words warranted an utter silence as his frown sharpened. The staff knew at once a fight was brewing and all prepared.
His spoon fell back in the bowl. The Butler at once ushered every staff member in attendance out of the room.
He held her gaze for a while before he clutched her hand tightly in his, ”Lei Xinyi, have I ever insinuated that you were a guest here?” His cold inspection held her words captive.
She blinked at the imposing tone and tried to retract her hand. He felt dangerous to be around with all the tell-a-tale signs. His hold tightened further, that it became painful. She swallowed the mired emotion and slowly drawled, ”But I don't want to impose…”
”And you never did,” He interjected sharply, she shut her mouth and lowered her eyes at once. She felt mortified by his words. It was like she was the ungrateful one, who was taking advantage of him but still in return was making him feel like a stranger.
Looking at her petrified reaction to his tone his eyes softened to elatedness and his hold loosened, ”Lei Xinyi, this is your home as much as it's mine. I have made myself obvious to you time and again on my motives.” He announced forcing every word.
And this happened every time she tried to start an argument with him! Was it because of what she owed him, she was pretty sure it wasn't it... Her adopted father had done many things for her yet she was thick-skinned enough to rub his name in the mire.
If Li Yuan did notice the unusual occurrence in her behavior lately, he didn't make her conscious of it. Either he was getting used to her cold shoulder or wasn't bothered by it. But instead, he took her right hand in his and kissed her knuckles.
He then kissed her hair and reminded her, ”Be sure to return before lunch or leave after lunch. Don't starve yourself.” After that, he backed away.
She saw him leave and felt an ache in her heart. She wanted to run to him and kiss him and bind him tightly in her embrace but she just stayed there watching him became smaller and smaller till he disappeared behind the doors.
Her thoughts became conflicted and confused, she felt concerned about his thoughts of her. Her heart ached at the thought that she had disheartened him but what hurt more was that like before he didn't persist but left her alone.
It had been like this for weeks, he says everything right and does everything right yet she feels that he had detached himself from her.
'Was he seeing it now that she was more trouble than worth? Did he finally grow tired of her accustomed coldness to his intimate gestures? Did he find another willing woman who was easy and tended to his needs?' The strayed thoughts gripped her heart in a plague squeezing the life out of it.
