Chapter 173 - Prisoners Dilemma (2/2)
”You told me all that information though.”
”I did it because I want you to trust me. I don't want to lie to you.”
”If we weren't dating, would you still have said so? If you weren't interested in me?”
”I wonder.”
Though Kazuya replied vaguely, Lyn immediately understood. If Kazuya didn't have feelings for her from the start then...then... Lyn felt the tears well up in her eyes. She knew it was stupid to cry, but she felt so hopeless. Why is it like this? Lyn thought that their relationship with each other had gotten better. She thought it improved to the point that they are willing to share these things.
Her thoughts broke off when Kazuya cupped her cheeks, ”Don't cry, Lyn.”
”I'm sorry,” Lyn apologized, ”I should have been honest with you from the start like you were with me.” No sooner had she gotten to know Kazuya did he tell her everything. His purpose of being here, the Sound Kingdom's goals - while he did not elaborate on the goals before. He still told her.
”No,” his lips curve to a small smile, ”I understand, you were afraid that I'd hate you right?”
Lyn nodded, ”I'm sorry,” she apologized again, ”I didn't want you to hate me. When I met you that day, while I was angry. I realized I was curious about you and wanted to learn more. But to do that, I had to act ignorant. If I showed you how I was from the start, you'd leave.”
Yes, all of them leave. Even Prince Zenith did, when he saw her power - he stopped coming to see her and meeting her. She knew that failed kidnap incidence disrupted their friendship too. But, even then it shouldn't have affected their friendship too much. The reason why Zenith's brother's kidnapping failed was because she used her powers then.
”Why would I leave silly girl? Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?”
”Kazuya, didn't you know where I was? How could I leave the Mist Kingdom?”
”After what happened then, I strongly thought they would move you elsewhere. Rumors about you stopped the last few years too, only rumors that spread about your appearance was when you were younger. I thought, they took you somewhere far away,” his voice turned quiet, and Lyn saw him trembling.
Her eyes widened, and Lyn immediately pulled him into her embrace, ”Kazuya, I...”
”Thank goodness I was wrong,” Kazuya wrapped his arms around her, ”Lyn, we can't work together. But, stay by my side and don't leave me.”
When Lyn hears the last line, she clenched her fist. She wanted to tell Kazuya that she would stay by his side. Lyn wanted to reassure him that things would be okay. That she would stay by his side forever. But, 'that's an impossible wish, isn't it?' Lyn thought. With the current circ.u.mstances, Kazuya and her will eventually have to go against each other.
The current time they have with each other is limited. Even if they don't end up as enemies, they both belong to different Kingdoms; they will both walk down a thorny path.
