Chapter 172 - Intentions (2/2)
A grudge? Why would she hold one against Mother? It's not as though Lyn didn't understand; she let's go of Kazuya's hand and loosened her robes slightly revealing the mark.
”Wh--what---!”
”Because of this,” Lyn pointed to the mark, ”I understand why she did what she did. Mother is the Queen, while she's my mother and the Queen at the same time. She has to keep a balance between both. As the Queen allowing your personal feelings to get in the way would lead to the downfall of the Kingdom. One must strengthen their resolve and heart.”
”Did you never hold a grudge?”
”I guess at a time I did. But not anymore,” Lyn recalled Mother's reaction at the banquet and chuckled, ”Mother is more interesting than I thought.” It's normal for anybody who is close to the easterners much or less have a child with one to react that way. However, for the first time, Lyn thought she caught a glimpse of the real Queen Orthez.
Speaking of groups rioting against Mother and the current reign. She supposes Kazuya's Sound Kingdom is included in that bunch.
”Kazuya, do your people want to kill Mother?”
”No,” Kazuya shook his head, ”We just want to dethrone her, but we don't want her to die. Your mother still has the most influence in the Empire, after all.”
”Then, what about what happens when you're successful? Will you elect somebody amongst your people to become King or Queen?”
”The thing is Lyn, I think they are trying to abolish the King and Queen monarchy system,” Kazuya trailed off, ”They've already gathered loads of powerful individuals who support the new rule.”
Lyn didn't show a trace of surprise at Kazuya's words. She had a feeling it was something like that, ”Do these people think that's possible?”
”Lyn?”
A deep sigh escaped her lips, ”I thought the people in your hometown would be smarter. But I suppose they will just have to learn the hard way. Even if Mother's reign ends, there will be a newly elected King or Queen. This system is still the best one for the people.”
That's right; it's because they have this system that the citizens have not truly rioted yet. As long as they maintain a standard balance, and people can maintain a good living. There should be no riots. The people don't want to rule, while some greed for more power. The people don't want to take over the Empire; anybody can tell that a considerable amount of responsibility is involved.
Kazuya's expression suddenly darkened, and Lyn felt the atmosphere grow heavy. She stood up, ”I think we should check on them, they've been in there too long. Wait for me here, Kaz--,” her sentence fell short when she saw the darkness in his eyes. In the next second, Kazuya had her pinned against the wall. A somewhat dangerous feeling filled her body.
But how could that be? This is the person she loves; he would never do anything to harm her. Lyn took a deep breath and relaxed her expression, with a firm and yet sharp voice she said, ”I don't want to treat you as my enemy Kazuya, even though you are,” Lyn murmured.
While her eldest brother gave her that job to do, Lyn didn't think much of it. When she got to know Kazuya, Lyn realized that she fell for her brother's plans all along. He was the reason why Kazuya could easily get through the barrier, the reason why she met him that day. But even then Lyn didn't treat him as her enemy. Why would she? In the first place, she did not want to get involved with the new game the Empire was playing.
It took a few minutes before Kazuya spoke up. It was a mere six words, and yet it cut through the air like a thorny rose.
”You know more than we thought.”
