Chapter 28: The hunt (3) (2/2)

”Phew, it's finally done!” Ed was very tired from using all of his skills so he decided to rest instead of hunt the next wyvern. It was getting late anyway so they headed out to look for a spot to rest and eat at. Ed cooked the cow meat and found it even tastier than normal meat they had. He decided not to judge things by how they sound from now on.

Ed then prepared the tent and the three slept soundly. The next morning Ed felt rejuvenated and cooked breakfast, he made a simple omelet with vegetables. Although Raikou grumbled at the lack of meat, he still ate what he was given.

The three made their way to search for the next wyvern. This time they found it in a desert-like area. 'The terrain seems to change a lot in this place' Ed found it weird that a forest, rocky, and desert areas were next to each other.

The wyvern they found this time had red scales. It was, of course, a fire wyvern.

The wyvern had a cocky attitude. As soon as Ed and the others entered its territory, it flew to them and wanted to fight. It had the same cultivation as the earth wyvern.

The fight this time was very straightforward. The wyvern used fire magic to attack them, mainly by arrows or fireballs. Ed and Raikou had fought each other many times before and used similar strategies so they had no issue at all dodging it. However, at one point Ed lost his focus and dropped his guard when the wyvern was attacking and got burned from the waist down.

Ed wasn't hurt badly since the magic was weak and his body was stronger than usual Knight Establishment people. However, since he wasn't wearing his leather armor set, his clothes got burned down to his underpants. Ed regretted not wearing his best equipment and hurriedly brought out some spare clothes. This was also the first time he felt glad he had some linen underwear.

He crushed one of the cards and wore the underwear, and this time he made sure to wear his leather set. Raikou looked hopeless when he saw Ed changing clothes in the middle of the battle. So he made sure to let him know not to interrupt him as he wanted to kill the wyvern alone.

Raikou wanted to try out his strength for a while but chose to hunt with Ed instead, but now he had the chance. He kept firing magic at the wyvern from a distance while dodging the magic that was coming at him. Since he had the speed advantage, he always hit the wyvern. This caused the latter to be pissed and wanted to fight Raikou in close range. This proved to be the wrong choice since as soon as he got close, Raikou used a new skill. It was shadow manipulation; he got the surrounding shadows to bind the wyvern while he went in for the kill.

They had hunted four out of five of their targets. Only one remained.
