92 To Protect Her (1/2)

The soup had to be fed to Alex since his right arm was broken. Madam Zi took the bowl from Eyan and began feeding him.

”Grandma you look tired. I'm okay now you guys should head home to rest when I'm done.” Alex said looking up at her tired and swollen eyes.

”You guys don't have to worry. I'll be staying with my sis tonight, so I can check on him.” Eyan reassured them as he walked them to the elevator and back toward Alex's room.

Alex was the first to speak when we walked back into the room.

”So, is she really doing okay? I'm tougher than you think, you don't have to lie to me. I know somethings wrong.”

”Umm, bro I don't know how to say this, but I think we should wait until you get physically stronger to tell you more. You woke not too long ago; I don't want to worry you.” Eyan found an excuse to not tell him the truth.

”I realize that you're not going to tell me the truth,” Alex replied in a dejected tone.

”Do you remember what happened?”

”Yes, I do…but if you want to know, you will have to tell me how my wife, your sister, is doing truthfully.”

'Such a businessman; even in pain he wants to negotiate.' Eyan couldn't help thinking.

He could tell that Alex was becoming annoyed and impatient. He felt miserable looking at his helpless his commonly cool and confident brother in law appeared. He did have a point though, Zunnie was his wife so he had a right to know.

”Well… uhh, she hit her head pretty badly and…” Eyan paused before he continued.

Even though the pause was not a long one before he could continue speaking he heard Alex say;

”And…?” His raspy voice questioned Eyan impatiently.

”They uh, they don't know when she's going to wake up or if she will. If she does wake up she may suffer from head injuries and memory loss.”

The room remained quiet for a while after he spoke. He wondered if Alex was processing what he had just said. Eyan glanced to where he laid and felt his eyes sting.

Alex's expression was so melancholic that he felt as if his heart had been shattered. He couldn't help wondering if Alex was going to cry.

”She is strong, she will wake up soon.” He tried to reassure his brother in law.
