26 Immortal General of the Legion (1/2)

Adrasteia strode forward after her master has given the order.

She nonchalantly moved forward towards the human defenses then she looked at their faces.

Fear can be seen in the eyes of the human soldiers, but Adrasteia understood this and knew the reason why.

The weak would fear the strong, especially when the strong intend to prey on the weak.

The humans have known and seen what she and the others are capable of – that Adrasteia and the others cannot be harmed by the humans no matter what they do. The soldiers began to think what would be the point in trying to engage an enemy that cannot be harmed, an enemy that is invulnerable – that is why the soldiers couldn't bring themselves to attack.

However they are soldiers, they must not let themselves be consumed by fear, but rather fight if they have nowhere to go.

Adrasteia knows that she and the fellow guardians would be preying on the weak, but even if the weak is the prey it won't matter. No matter if they annihilate an entire city, no matter if they have to abuse on the weak or anyone else, the only thing that matter is their lord and creator.

Adrasteia doesn't care about anything else whether if its humans or something else, the one she truly and greatly cares about is her master – of course, she also cares about her allies but she cares about her master the greatest.

If millions have to die for her master, then so be it. If everything that has to be or will be done is for the master or is commanded by him, then it has to be done, even exterminating all the humans in this town. She will do anything for her master.

Indeed, Adrasteia is human, but she is an Immortal Human. However, she doesn't care about the humans in front of her or any humans in that matter. Normal humans and an immortal human is of a different existence.

Normal humans have a limited lifespan and are not that very strong, while an immortal one has an unlimited lifespan and are greatly more powerful than a normal one.

Thus, Adrasteia, the Immortal General of the Legion, is of higher existence than those normal humans – in other words, normal humans are inferior life forms.

Few moments have passed.

Adrasteia observed the humans, but it seems they still don't have the intention to fight.

Soldiers are supposed to fight when there is no other choice, something should be done. The master seems to want the soldiers to fight back, so they should. What could be done?

Adrasteia thought.

While trying to think what can be done, she looked at Criswell on her distant right and Criswell was also looking at her.

Criswell seemed to have noticed the same thing as her – the humans seem to have no intention to fight against them.

After a few steps, Criswell stopped walking so Adrasteia also stopped. Adrasteia looked at Brutus on her distant left and Brutus looked back at her and he also stopped walking following Criswell and Adrasteia.

Adrasteia keenly observed the humans while contemplating.

Now, what can I do to make them fight? Should I tell them some words of encouragement as soldiers? That could be done, but I'm their enemy, so they won't completely swallow my words. But still, that could be a way to make them fight. However, it's up to themselves to decide whether to fight or not.

Adrasteia thought.

Adrasteia pondered for a few seconds to whether to give some words of encouragement or not.

She is a general who is given the responsibility to command her master's forces. So naturally, she would be the one to give encouragement, and morale to the forces. But it would be a different case if the army she will command is not sentient or doesn't have a mind of their own, or are not living.

Then not for long, she said in her mind.

Hmmm, alright, might as well give it a try. Still, I don't like giving encouragement to the enemy. But the master seems to want them to fight back, so I have to do it.

Adrasteia doesn't know the exact reason why the master is attacking the humans of this town as well as why she and the guardians have to hold back. However, it doesn't matter that they don't know the reason.

Her master might have a good and right reason for this, so she only has to follow her master's orders.

As she was about to open her mouth to speak a voice suddenly rang out.

”Aren't you supposed to be soldiers? Then be one, fight the enemy right in front of you, be the warrior that you are, or is it that you people chose to be cowards instead? Then there's no point in you for being soldiers. You have no place to go, no escape, so there's no choice but to fight!”

She knows exactly from whom that voice came from. It was from a distance but she's still able to hear it most clearly, that's because she has a superhuman hearing to an extent.

Sagremor? He beat me to it huh.

Adrasteia said in her mind and she smiled behind the mask.

Hearing that, Adrasteia now concluded that what Sagremor said might be already enough to make the soldiers realize that they should fight.

Then after a few moments, a static voice rang out from the ranks of the soldiers.

”Soldiers! Muster some courage, the courage to defend our home, the courage to bring peace to us once again. Do not let fear consume you! The enemies are in front of us, which means we can shoot them. Do not let them do what they want! Our peaceful lives will return when they are gone, so soldiers, fight until your last breath, do not lose hope! Fight for your friends and family!”

It seems to be from the human soldiers' commanding officer.

Then after the message from the radio, the human soldiers started to shout showing their resolve.

”YEEEEAAAAAHH!”

”WE”LL FIGHT UNTIL THE END!”

”FOR OUR FAMILY!”

”WE WILL NOT GIVE UP!”

”OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!”

Adrasteia raised an eyebrow in hearing their shouts.

Then I suppose it's fine now, time to begin the assault.

Adrasteia said in her mind then she continued to stride forward towards the humans.

As she was walking, the soldiers began to ready their weapons and began to aim.

However, a lot of them seemed to be occupied. They were distracted by something.

Adrasteia looked at where the human soldiers are looking at and this caused her to furrow her brows behind the mask.

The soldiers were looking at Criswell.

Distracted huh? That is not quite acceptable when in the military. But I guess that's just how these inferior life forms are. Easily distracted by something majestic, after all, Criswell's wings are majestic in the eyes of such lower life forms. But still, they need to snap out of it and focus on their enemies.

Adrasteia thought.

After a few moments, a high-ranking officer shouted.

”E-Everyone! They're the enemy! Shoot them down! Fi—.”

However it was cut off when suddenly a beam of light hit the human defenses including the officer, thus all units hit by the light died.

The human soldiers were confused about what just happened. The damage caused by the light was just too great to be normally thought about.

Adrasteia, however, knew where the beam of light came from and she continued to walk towards the humans until she was so close to their defenses.

When she finally was close to their defenses she stopped walking.
