27 Chapter 27 : Breaking Poin (2/2)

On the other side...

Kenji and Rei peered to the ceiling. ”Run.” Kenji said in mid turn around. The two kids darted down the hallway, stumbling in the darkness. The entire ceiling began to cave, quickly catching up to their heels. Rei felt a medium sized rock clip her heel, almost tripping. Kenji caught her and ushered her along. ”Hey there's light.” Rei's eyes light up. At the end, was a lit room. Heaving and exerting everything, the kids dove into the opening. Kenji's lungs hurt. He opened his eyes, but heard a bloodcurdling scream. He looked back. Rei's ankle was submerged under the rock. Tears fell. She wheezed and whimpered back and forth. Her entire foot was flipped around, trying to tear itself from her leg.

Kenji rushed to her aid. He immediately pushed against the rock with everything he had. It wouldn't budge. ”Hold on. I'll think of something.” Before he could, countless signatures entered the room. The torches illuminating the room ceased. Complete darkness engulfed them. Kenji gripped his grandfather's sword and unsheathed it. He was happy Aya recovered it for him. He'd never let go of it again. Rei became quiet. She saw the silhouette of Kenji on guard. He heartbeat increased. Sweat trialed down her face. She swallowed a dry lump in her throat and tried to locate the enemy.

An angry voice sounded from the depths of the dark. ”Why did you betray the Mist?!”

Another said, ”Why!!!!”

All Kenji could think was more Mist ninja trying to belittle him. Trying to betray him again. Breaking the silence, was the crack of veins. The enemy shuddered. The only visible feature of Kenji was the solid white, glowing sharingan, lurking in the darkness. In Kenji's mind, he noticed there was fourteen chakra systems. But they were his size. He smugged his lips. The mist thought little of him. Sending fourteen genin to take him out.

Another voice from the corner. ”Why.”

Kenji traveled his vision slowly to the culprit. ”I'll tell you why.”

He flashed across the room. It wasn't even a fair fight. Had the enemy known Kenji had the Byakugan, the lights would have remained on. He powered through the enemies. Slashing his sword back and forth. The sound of liquid painting the floor and cries of death filled the room. One managed to match Kenji in sword skill for a moment. Kenji figured he needed more training. They looked swords. Slashing back and forth at each other, until Kenji clicked his trusty ninja wire. The enemy bolted a kunai towards his face. In these times, he was thankful for his lineage. His byakugan allowed him to see the knife, but his sharingan pushed his reaction time to the max. Kenji flicked his sword into a vortex, blocking himself. The kunai bounced off the sword and darted towards Rei. She heard the exchange and shielded her head. The knife brushed the skin on her leg without making a mark. It lodge into the rock with force, cracking it in the process. Rei struggled and released her foot. She winced once more, but felt a chakra signature that screamed death. Kenji whisked his, now, lightning engulfed sword into the back of his enemy. He pulled his wire toward himself, pulling the genin at him while lodging the sword deeper into the chest of his opponent. Kenji's foot smashed against his side, crushing his ribs and puncturing his lungs. The one he killed began choking on blood. Desperate for another breath. Kenji looked towards the ceiling and breathed through his nose quickly. Closing his eyes. In his mind, he was secretly enjoying this. The screams of his enemies. The thought of killing the Mist. It was something Kenji started loving. Rei pulled herself along the wall. Kenji was standing there, not reacting at all towards the body behind him. The ninja fluctuated chakra into a silent jutsu, planning to take Kenji by surprise. Rei reacted without thinking. Chains shot from her sides while she propped herself up from the ground. Kenji broke from his enjoyment, feeling the wind off her chains puncture the stomach of the man closing in behind him. He was now aware of the critical weakness of the byakugan. The boy Rei killed was shocked, but not as shocked as the look on Kenji's face. Rei's chains radiated a beautiful red chakra, which contributed some light. Kenji recognized the boy as a classmate from the Mist Academy.

Rei was at the brink of insanity. She had obtained her first kill. Kenji wanted to die. Why? Why was he here? Bodies littered the room. Kenji had to know. He relit the torches and looked at his mess with dead eyes. All of them were his classmates.

The thing he hated, was that he didn't care. Rei looked into Kenji's eyes, still heavily breathing. She couldn't stay calm. The sound of her chains bursting through his insides. She would never forget that. Her gaze rushed to Kenji's body. He was covered in the blood of his kills. She wondered about him. He just stood there. Gazing at his kills like it was just another day, but every time he did something like this, it killed him on the inside just a little. Kenji had nothing to say or feel. He waded through the bodies of everyone he'd ever known with too much ease. He realized Rei probably killed her first, so he approached her. His white eyes showed nothing in them at all, Rei was frightened, but crumbled under Kenji's embrace. He didn't say anything. Just a hug while Rei tried to calm down in his outside warmth. On the inside, Kenji had the ferocity of hell, but hell had just froze over. Towards the future, Rei would forever remember this day, the day that completely broke Kenji.

So I think I delivered on the last few chapters. I really enjoyed writing them. The wording and everything is to my satisfaction. lol. I may have gotten some of the existing character's personalities skewed a little bit but that's how I like it. It's different you know? I feel like my fight scenes are lacking in intricacy, so I'll be dedicating a little more time in planning them out later. I like to focus on development and story telling so I need to strengthen fight scenes. It only gets harder from here on out. I'm out. YERRR!
