A few hours past as the team approached the mine. It delved into the mountainside. Kakashi peered down into the distance, attached to a limb. ”Kenji, you see anything?”
Kenji activated his eyes. White circles formed as veins cracked under his skin. He gazed around the entrance and beyond. Kakashi never broke contact with him.
”No, I don't see another entrance. And I can't see into the entire mine. It just cuts off about a mile down.”
Kakashi rubbed the inside of his pocket. ”Ok, I guess we don't really have a choice. We'll just have to go in.” He gazed towards his team who didn't really oppose. They had the determination to accomplish this. Kakashi couldn't really read what Kenji was thinking. Just a blank face. Nothing there but everything was there too. He shook it off. Just get past this mission he thought.
”Lets go.” Kakashi lowered to the entrance. He looked in different directions. Cautious as could be. Three bodies followed him into the darkness, which seemed like a dungeon.
The team walked for a while. Sasuke provided a flame to light the way. He cowered a small flame in the palm of his hand. Small chatter of footsteps echoed throughout the place.
”Something seems off. Be careful.” Kakashi didn't feel right. Rei and Kenji had taken the lead, so he proceeded to overtake them. If anything, something that happened would begin at the front. His idea was to take it head on instead of his students. Before he could get close to them, the cave rumbled, pushing Sasuke off balance, aligned with Kakashi. The sensei darted his eye toward the wall. One of the supports holding the walls failed its job. It happened fast. Fast enough that Kakashi was too late. Boulders and rocks tumbled from the walls and ceiling, Kenji sensed the danger immediately and grabbed Rei, heaving them both away from the threat, but cutting off Kakashi and Sasuke from Rei and Kenji. The last thing Kenji saw was the yearning face of his sensei and cousin, attempting to grab them. The ear aching smash of rocks silenced, leaving the sound of pebbles rolling around. The light was cut off from Rei and Kenji. He rolled off of Rei, who was still shaken.
”You ok?” He said.
”Yeah.” Rei coughed a sign of relief.
Beyond the cave in, Kakashi yelled. ”Are you two ok?” His sense of protection and emotional state peaked. He couldn't bear losing anyone else. He waited. And waited. Finally, he heard a faint ”Yes, we're fine.” From Rei. Relief was all he felt. ”Ok.” He followed. Glancing at the obstruction, he realized that he would be playing with fire. There was no easy way to relieve the path. ”Ok, Ok,” He whispered. Trying to cool himself off. ”I should have done this before, but I'm going to send for reinforcements. Ok? So just sit tight.” He yelled through the wall. He turned to Sasuke. ”Sasuke, make sure nothing happens. I'll be right back.” Kakashi flew off at top speed down the tunnel.
The young Uchiha watched him disappear and cleared his throat. He attempted to converse with his teammates, but was cut off by the same familiar rumble of the earth.
