Therefore, it would be possible that by merging Super Saiyan 2 with the compressed Great Ape the hair this time would turn golden. In addition, it is likely that if you used the Super Saiyan 3 in conjunction with the compressed Great Ape the hair would grow even more.

The answer cannot be as simple and incomplete as controlling your mind in Great Ape form when you are able to be Super Saiyan.

Baby Vegeta controlled his mind perfectly in that state and was not able to transform himself in that way.

Therefore, if this transformation exists there must be another requirement, a requirement either in the form of power level or an emotional one.

I think that once those conditions have been fulfilled, a Saiyan with a tail would be able to transform into a compressed Great Ape in its normal state, without going Super Saiyan.
