52 Day 51: The Scum Is Confused (2/2)
”I can.” Wu Bai just answered. ”Now that you've returned here, who will cook for you as you stay here?” he asked as he went to the kitchen.
Feng Mo followed him and sat on the chair as he watched Wu Bai prepared him food. ”You could've just requested a maid from my parents to stay here and make us food, or I could've just stayed in the sect and you could return to the Promising Sect to stay with my parents...” he said and looked at Wu Bai who started to cook.
Wu Bai didn't answer and just silently worked. Feng Mo fell silent and stared at Wu Bai's long, white hair that's tied. An idea struck him and he grinned as he silently stood up and sneakily creeped behind Wu Bai.
He raised his hand to pull the black string tying Wu Bai's hair.
But, just as he touched it Wu Bai suddenly turned. Feng Mo's eyes went wide as his hand frozen in the air touched Wu Bai's soft and smooth forehead. They stared at each other for what felt like a lifetime before Wu Bai retracted his gaze and softly pushed Feng Mo away, giving him some space.
”The food is almost ready. No need for you to rush in.” he told him and gave him a smile then turned back to the boiling pot.
”E – en...” Feng Mo said and nodded as he blinked multiple times. What just happened? He thought, puzzled. He absent – mindedly walked back to his chair and sat, silently staring at Wu Bai's back again.
He sighed and laid his head on the table, didn't notice he fell asleep.
He slowly opened his eyes when he smelled a rustic and fishy odor. ”What - ?” he muttered and tried to held his throat when he heard his voice is hoarse.
But, he felt he can't move his limbs. What? He thought and blinked when he saw something white passed him. His eyes followed the direction where it went. His eyes went wide when he saw the white he saw was the edge of the white cloth that's now covered in blood.
What?! He thought, shocked, as he looked at the back of the man wearing the white robe that's covered in blood.
”No...” the man said as he coughed blood and fell on his knees. ”I won't let you take him!” the white – robed man said and glared to whoever it was.
Why? Why is that voice familiar - ? he thought and tried to move but his body won't listen to him. move, will you - ?! He sighed, relieved, when he felt his fingers moved.
But, the relief vanished when he felt something wet and sharp he touched. He moved his eyes and looked down to see what he touched. He felt blood drained from his face when he saw a sword is stuck on his stomach.
But, what shocked him more is that... his hand is holding the sword that was on his stomach. Did he...? He thought.
Before he could think, the white – robed man turned to him, just in time he turned to call that man and ask. He thought nothing could surprise him more, but actually there is.
It's what surprised him most.
”Mo – er...?” the white – robed man called, surprised. A tear fell from his eyes as he looked at him, his face lit up.
Feng Mo's eyes went wide in horror when he saw something glistened behind the man's back. Alarm flashed in his eyes but he can't yell. There's someone behind you - ! he thought as he stared in horror at the sword coming on the man's back.
The man turned late and he was stabbed. The man staggered as he held his chest when someone pulled the sword out of the man's body.
No! He thought as he tried to move again but this time he couldn't. He looked at the white – robed man stepping back his way. No... he thought as a tear fell from his eyes when the man turned to him and smile, blood flowing out of his mouth and he fell right beside where Feng Mo lies.
”Mo... er...” the white – robed man called as he reached for Feng Mo's bloodied hands.
More tears fell from Feng Mo's eyes. ”... Bai...” he muttered as their eyes closed, their hands holding each other's hands.
He heard a knock and it woke him up.
”Hah!” Feng Mo gasped and he immediately sat up, catching his breath. He felt his cheeks and as expected, it's wet. He's really crying. He looked at his hands and remembered Wu Bai from his dream held his hand.
As if he could still feel the warmth of Wu Bai's hand, he placed it on his damp cheek from tears.
He almost jumped when he heard a knock again.
”Mo – er?” It was none other than Wu Bai. ”Are you alright?” he asked. ”I heard you – ”
Feng Mo didn't wait for Wu Bai to open the door and he opened it himself. He looked up to Wu Bai's face, the same face he saw from his dream.
”Tell me.” he said, still catching his breath but this time it's because of excitement and fear.
Not fear from the man himself but fear from what will the man's answer to his question.
He looked at Wu Bai in the eyes. ”Please answer me.” he said. ”Have we met before?” he asked. He didn't wait for Wu Bai to react and he added. ”Way back when your hair is still black and... and – ” he said and looked at Wu Bai's face. ” – when you died after I... died...” he finished, his voice trailed off. He looked at Wu Bai when he didn't answer. ”Tell me.” he said again, looking in Wu Bai's eyes.
It was a while before Wu Bai spoke. Feng Mo held his breath.
”Yes.” Wu Bai answered.
Feng Mo's eyes went wide.
As if not enough, he added. ”We were warriors.” He said. ”And... we were lovers.” He added and looked at Feng Mo's face that's now turning red. ”Mo – er – ”
Before he could continue, Feng Mo slammed the door loudly on Wu Bai's face. He leaned on the back of the door and caught his breath, calming his racing heart.
”Mo – er...” Wu Bai called from outside.
”Why...?” Feng Mo asked. ”What happened...?” he asked and shook his head as he vividly remember his dream.
He heard Wu Bai sighed from outside. ”A shame, but we couldn't protect the king.” He said. ”And so, for our king to protect his grandson... he took out our soul from our body and made us escape.” He explained.
”And that guy who killed us?” Feng Mo asked as his memories finally returning.
”The leader of the rebels. The one who incited the rebellion to overthrow the kingdom.” Wu Bai answered.
Feng Mo fell silent. ”What about this body?” he asked. ”And you?”
”The host of this body died while he's sleeping.” Wu Bai answered.
His eyes went wide.
”That's when my soul occupied this body.” Wu Bai explained.
”... how about this body?” he asked.
It was a while before Wu Bai answered. ”I told the Feng family about this.” he said, referring to their rebirth.
”And?” Feng Mo asked.
”And – ” Wu Bai said and took a deep breath. ” – the young master of the family took his own life.” He answered.
Feng Mo felt his eyeballs would pop out of their sockets. He's shocked speechless.
”Mo – er. The Feng family is thankful of you.” Wu Bai said after a while. ”They're too shocked of what happened to their only son, Madam Feng couldn't reproduce. But, seeing his son that took suicide came to life again, she deluded herself until she finally regained her senses again and realized you already died.” He explained. ”Now, Madam Feng is just happy somebody is now living in his son's body, making his son's wasted life have a purpose again. She's now bearing a baby girl...” he said.
A long silence fell.
Feng Mo broke it. ”What now?” he asked, his heart beating fast.
”For now...” Wu Bai said. Feng Mo jumped when he heard the door unlocked and the door behind him opened. ”Mo – er...” he called.
Feng Mo held his breath and he turned. He saw the face of the man who died in his dreams, he's now alive again. ”Wu... Bai...” he called as they stared in each other's face.
”Mo – er - !” Wu Bai said and hugged him tight.
Feng Mo drew a sharp breath and closed his eyes, feeling Wu Bai's warmth. It's the same warmth that he felt from the hand that held his bloodied hands. ”Wu Bai...” he called and closed his eyes when he felt Wu Bai cupped his face.
He slowly opened his eyes and stared at Wu Bai's tied white hair. He smiled as he raised his hands and untied Wu Bai's hair.
He gasped and smiled as he watched Wu Bai's hair fell like a raging waterfall. ”Wu Bai...” he called, then smiled as he tiptoed and kissed him. He smiled when he felt Wu Bai's soft lips. ”Thank god I have you again.” he whispered as he hugged the man.
Wu Bai drew a sharp breath and hugged him back tightly, tears forming in his eyes. ”Thank god I found you again.” he said and kissed Feng Mo's head.
He's long been looking for him. Now that he found him again... he'll never let himself lose this man again.
”Mo – er...” he called and caressed Feng Mo's cheek. He stared at Feng Mo's sleeping face. ”After all of these are over... I promise I'll lock you up and never leave my side.” He said as he remembered that Feng Mo, in his past life, is a wanderer. ”For now... we have to protect the prince, as what our king made us live again.” he said and kissed Feng Mo's lips then laid him down the bed.
He smiled and laid down beside him as he waved his hand and the lights went off. He hugged Feng Mo under the blankets and closed his eyes, finally gonna sleep peacefully for the first time.
When morning comes and he'll open his eyes again, there're two things he must protect – one, his lover. And two, the prince they're going to serve – Hou Sheng.
