21 Day 20: The Scum Is Playing By Ear (2/2)
Chen Sheng sighed and patted Li Tian's shoulder. ”You do that to shifu.” He told him, referring to Fang Wen. ”Let's go.” He told him when the sun already set.
Their orange robe dyed with the setting sun's light looked like it is glowing.
”Yes!” Li Tian answered, ignoring the people staring at them in awe.
Even though this Newfound Sect is new... their sect has style! The people thought as they watch the two disciple of the new sect walk away, looking as if they're glowing.
At this time, a figure swept past above them. The people were alarmed and immediately hid.
Li Tian froze. Chen Sheng stopped and his eyes followed the flying figure away.
”What is it?” Chen Sheng asked, puzzled, and looked at Li Tian.
After a few seconds, Li Tian calmed down, even though his face is pale. ”I don't know. But we have to check it.” he answered, nervous. ”Even though unofficially, but we're still part of the sect. We have to protect the citizens here.” He explained.
Chen Sheng nodded. Protecting the citizens is one of the sect's missions. Fang Wen told them that the very time he handed the sect's robe to them, like he's handing the responsibility to them.
”Okay. Let's go.” he said. He and Li Tian immediately ran towards the direction where the figure flew.
This point in time... Chen Sheng will be finally aware that this peaceful world he went in is not as peaceful as he thought.
Feng Residence.
The flame on the candle flickered and multiple shadows appeared on the wall. The night is still early since the sun has just yet and yet it is as quiet as a deep sea. That's why even just a motion of the wind, it can be heard.
A young man in his early teens lifted up his face that's drowned in the pile of books in front of him after he saw the candle flame on his tableside flickered.
”What's wrong?” a deep and smooth voice cut the silence inside the room.
The youth turned to the man who spoke. His white, long hair was dyed by the candlelight making it looked like a shower of the setting sun's light.
”Did something just pass by?” Feng Mo asked, his beady sharp eyes vigilant. Even though the youth's face is cold, but it shows anxiety. Since, for the first time, a chill ran down his spine making the hair on his nape stood up.
Something sinister must be nearby.
The man with long, white hair closed the book he's read and reached the book the youth is currently writing in.
”Tonight is somewhat unusual.” Wu Bai, Feng Mo's tutor, calmly said. ”You must retire early tonight.” He told the youth and stared at his anxious face. ”No need to be afraid. The whole mansion is enveloped by the Evil Dispelling Talismans. Your family never lacked of it, so you can relax.” He assured the youth. The youth didn't answer.
The man's eye twitched. ”You're still thinking of that matter?” he asked the youth.
The candle flickered again, yet it didn't hide the slight change in the youth's face.
”You know your family is against it.” he added.
The youth's face went dark and he slammed his hands on his table, causing the pile of books falling.
”But I want to be a cultivator!” Feng Mo yelled, mad.
Wu Bai remained calm. ”Why?” he asked softly.
Feng Mo looked at him. ”I hate being kept inside this place. I'm no different than a bird in a cage.” He answered. ”I want to be free. I want to help other people and relieve them from their worries. And being a businessman doesn't do it!” he said, gritting his teeth.
The Feng family is the oldest family that's been here in the Newfound Land, way before the land was named. That's why the whole family knows how to control everything in the land behind the shadows. And that makes them influential in the land.
But Feng Mo doesn't like it. Even though being in a family of businessmen guarantee a secured life in the future, but he feels like that secured future stems from other people's sufferings. Since only one does a businessman live from: other people's profit.
That's why he hates this business to the core. Even if it's already late to wash his life white, it's still not too late. It's because he was given a chance and the chance is called the Newfound Sect. He's going to be a cultivator.
Wu Bai stared at him.
Feng Mo suddenly felt conscious. ”W – what?” he asked, his face went red. Those silver eyes of his is very unnerving... he thought as he looked at Wu Bai's eyes.
Feng Mo's life has been dull as long as he can remember. He has to stay whole day in his room just to study his family business, all by himself. But now, a man with long white hair and silver eyes appeared before him, announcing he's going to teach him starting that day.
Feng Mo had never thought he has nothing to learn since all he's done from his birth till now is learn. But, this man taught him to wake up from being a short – sighted person, making him see there's more beyond what he sees.
From books to reading people's reaction... all of it were taught to him by this man.
Since then, Feng Mo's view of life changed from monotonous to colorful. That's why, the moment his eyes been peeled open, he finally understood how this world works, as well as his family's line of thinking.
That's why when he came across the word 'cultivation', his interest was piqued. Being a cultivator isn't only protecting people form evil, but also relieving them from worries by clearing their minds of evil thoughts.
And Feng Mo badly want to learn that, by becoming a cultivator.
”Being a cultivator means your life will always be in danger.” Wu Bai said.
Feng Mo looked at him. ”I've been long prepared for that.” He said. ”Living a monotonous life is worse than being dead. I want to find my purpose in life.” He explained. ”I want to see the world with my own eyes.” He added.
Wu Bai fell silent. ”Alright.” He said.
Feng Mo sharply turned to him.
”The Newfound Sect will be having their official ceremony to accept disciple in two days. I'll help you sign up tomorrow.” He told him, then stood up.
Feng Mo blinked a few times, shocked. ”Y – Y... you're really going to help me?” he asked, hopeful. He looked at Wu Bai.
Wu Bai nodded. ”I'll talk with your parents.” He said. ”Ever since the day I appeared before you, your parents already gave me their trust and also their child.” He said, a slight smile appeared on his face when he said the last phrase.
Feng Mo blinked. The smile on Wu Bai's face disappeared. Was it just my imagination? He thought, puzzled.
The sentence 'gave me their trust and also their child' just passed by from his ear and out to another, thus not giving some deeper thought and meaning with the words.
”I...” he said, then glanced at Wu Bai, anxious. ”Thank – ”
Before he could finish his sentence, Wu Bai spoke. ”Under one condition.” He said, now his smile is evident on his face.
Feng Mo couldn't help but feel awe, not minding what Wu Bai had said. This is the first time he saw this man smile. ”That is?” he asked.
”... I'll tell you tomorrow.” Wu Bai just said. ”Now, go to sleep.” He told him and waved his sleeve.
The candle died and darkness filled the room.
Not a second later, a sweet fragrance filled the whole room and, not long after, Feng Mo's eyelids felt heavy and he closed his eyes.
Before he lost consciousness, he felt strong arms caught him and lifted him up.
Somewhere in the Newfound Land.
Fei Yin kicked the pebble that's on his way. Even though his face is blank, but he is pissed. He's been flying (on his sword) for hours and it's only just now he found a place with people.
But, the one who he's looking for is nowhere to be seen.
Did I just miss him while on the way? Fei Yin thought, then shook his head. No matter how many people there are or how thick the trees in the forest or how deep the sea is, he'll never ever miss the sight of that person.
Then... where could he be - ? he thought, depressed. His stomach doesn't help since it growled, indicating he's really hungry. He just suddenly left, and in a hurry, his home without taking much with him – not even money. Even in his dimensional pocket, there's only one spare of clothes and some items.
He could sell some items, but it's already night and it seems like there's no people...
He stopped in his tracks. Right. There's not a person can be seen here. He thought as he looked around. Seems like they left in a hurry? he thought, then his forehead knotted. Could it be...? His face went dark.
Like an answer to his thought, he heard he swoosh sound behind him followed by flapping of wings.
