6 Day 5: The Scum Is A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing (1/2)
Chen Sheng 101: Scum's Introduction
If you all think I'm an airhead, meek and passive... then what's the use of me being entitled as a 'scum'?
Chen Sheng saw in the corner of his eyes Wu Yuan's reaction. Chen Sheng's eyes slightly narrowed, a trace of evil imprinted in his deep almond eyes.
Of course, as a scum, you should know first yourself, and then your enemy. Since I've already finished thoroughly knowing myself and confirming myself as a bonafide scum, thus I'll be labeled as a 'cannon fodder' here... of course I should know everyone's backstory to avoid myself getting stabbed in the back or be cluelessly lured in a trap by other sub characters or fellow cannon fodders.
Wu Yuan. He's the head disciple of the Promising Sect (where, again, Chen Han – my older brother, is). He's a model of a good and upright and outstanding and gentle... (I think all positive adjectives can be applied to him, so let's end it here) and handsome disciple.
But, just as hinted at the end of the previous chapter, he hates me. So don't be deceived by him (as well as me, since I'm a scum, remember?).
Since somebody's after me (my life, that is), of course I naturally looked up the cause of his hate to me. (hell with his hate towards other people. My life is the most precious for me)
Surprising or not, this Wu Yuan is actually a fan of Chen Han. Even though he's the head disciple, but seeing how carefree and expressive Chen Han is, he couldn't help but admire Chen Han. (Maybe, more or less, because this Wu Yuan is a restrained person.)
The second one is Sun Yi. He's the total opposite of Wu Yuan. An arrogant, proud, sneering, cold – (alright. You can use any negative adjective to describe this guy) disciple of the Promising Sect. If Wu Yuan has the protagonist vibe, then this Sun Yi is the antagonist. What's admiring is that, this Sun Yi is not just all talk and haughty in his attitude. In fact, he has the right to be haughty and proud since he's really one of the outstanding disciples of their sect.
And also... this Sun Yi, Chen Sheng admires him. Sun Yi is just being true to his self, no pretentions whatsoever. (So somewhat... Sun Yi is sort of a scum, too, like me. XD fellows of the same skin befriends each other. Though, Sun Yi and I are not – friends.)
Chen Sheng secretly looked at the two – Wu Yuan and Sun Yi, then turned to Chen Han and smiled at him.
”Oh. Right.” Chen Han, who seems like just waken from his fantastical dream, said and blinked. The others looked at him. ”I forgot to tell you.” He said and looked at them. ”Junior Brother Fei, Junior Brother Feng and – ” he said and looked at Li Tian.
Li Tian just raised his brows to him and scoffed. He looked away, missing the chance to see the flash of pain and sadness crossing Chen Han's eyes.
Chen Han blinked, then turned to the two – Fei Yin and Feng Mo. ”Master would like to speak with you – ” he told the two, then looked at Wu Yuan and Sun Yi.
The two are just standing quietly not far, looking at them.
Chen Han's eyes lit up when he looked at Chen Sheng. ”That goes without saying, Ah Sheng is coming, too – ” he said and smiled brightly.
”Brother Chen.” Wu Yuan cut him off. They all looked at him. His face is blank. ”He's not qualified – ” he said, referring to Chen Sheng. ” – so Junior Brother Chen is excluded.” He said bluntly, then coldly looked at Chen Sheng, who's just standing quietly beside his elder brother.
Chen Han's face darkened. ”Wu Yuan...” he said, his voice low. ”How dare you – ” he said, gritting his teeth as he glared at Wu Yuan.
Fei Yin, Li Tian, and Feng Mo looked dark, too. Their fingers itching to touch their sword's scabbard, ready to fight whenever.
The disciples walking around not far from them stopped when they felt the temperature dropped and an intense aura emanate from the group. It's the combined aura of these gentlemen, precisely their killing intent.
And so the disciples immediately ran away.
Chen Sheng, in the corner of his eyes, saw Lei Ling's face is pale and his body is shaking. Both because of the pressure and fear. Needless to say, Chen Sheng isn't any better but he didn't show it on his face.
”Brother.” He called and tugged Chen Han's sleeve. ”Brother Fei. Brother Li. Brother Feng.” He called them one by one.
They all seemed to wake up. The oppressive aura vanished. They all looked at him, their eyes full of guilt.
They were about to say something when he raised his hand. ”I'll take my leave with Junior Brother Lei.” He said and looked at Lei Ling.
Lei Ling now stopped shaking but his face still pale.
”See you.” He told them, then bowed at Wu Yuan and Sun Yi.
Wu Yuan's face is still dark, but now he hid his aura.
”... En.” The four – Chen Han, Fei Yin, Li Tian and Feng Mo, answered, their head hung low.
Chen Sheng nodded and left with Lei Ling. ”Let's go, Junior Brother Lei.” He told him and pulled his arm.
”B – But, Senior Brother Chen...” Lei Ling called as they walked away. ”Your hands are trembling – ” he said. But Chen Sheng ignored him and continued pulling him away.
Of course, those words of Lei Ling didn't escape the four's ears. Their face darkened and glared at Wu Yuan.
It was Chen Han who regained his composure. He smiled, a humorless smile, as he turned to Wu Yuan. ”I'll set aside this matter for the sake of our masters – ” he told him, gritting his teeth as he said every word. ” – but if you dare insult my younger brother again... I won't hesitate to leave the sect bringing your head with me.” he said, his amber eyes darkened as he glared at Wu Yuan. He walked past him and Sun Yi. ”Junior Brother Fei. Junior Brother Feng. And... Junior Brother Li. Let's go – ” he said and left.
The three, whose face as dark as Chen Han's, followed him. Not wasting the time throwing glares at Wu Yuan as they walked past him.
”That Newfound Sect sure dote too much on the younger Chen.” Sun Yi commented after Chen Han and the others left. ”So?” he said and looked at Wu Yuan.
A while before Wu Yuan sighed, calming himself. ”For Brother Chen's sake... I'll consider his younger brother's strength.” He said, referring to Chen Sheng withstanding the pressure coming from five of them earlier.
For a low level cultivator just surrounded by the pressure of, aside one peak – level Foundation Establishment Stage (Feng Mo), five Core Formation Stage – early to peak levels ... just a second and they'll pass out.
But, Chen Sheng exceeded his expectations. For the meantime, he'll ignore his existence.
He and Sun Yi then left, following the four men who went first.
Two pair of eyes followed the two who just left.
”... whew - !” Lei Ling sighed, relieved, when Wu Yuan and Sun Yi left his sight.
He and Chen Sheng actually didn't leave. When they're far enough from the six gentlemen – Chen Han, Fei Yin, Li Tian, Feng Mo, Wu Yuan, and Sun Yi, earlier... Chen Sheng pulled him to a nearby pillar to hide.
Lei Ling, surprised, didn't have time to react and so he just followed Chen Sheng quietly. ”Senior Brother Chen – ” he called and turned, only to stop when he saw Chen Sheng taking out white blanket from his outer robe. His forehead knotted. ”Senior Brother Chen... is that – ” he said and looked at Chen Sheng.
He remembered his fellow disciples talking about a pure white blanket protected Fei Yin and saved him when the fierce corpse almost killed him.
Chen Sheng looked at him. ”You're smart.” He said and the white blanket turned to a ball of cloth. ”That's right. This is a high – level magic item, Heaven's Touch.” He answered. ”Anything that could inflict a harm on the user's body – may it be malevolent energy, poison, or an enemy's pressure... it deflects it as long as the user whishes it.” he explained and hid the ball of cloth on his space bag.
Lei Ling didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Obviously, Chen Sheng used this item to protect himself from the oppressing pressure earlier.
A thought flashed in his mind.
”Then... that earlier...” he said, remembered Chen Sheng's shaking hand holding his arm earlier.
”Ah. That.” Chen Sheng said, his face blank. ”I'm just holding off my laughter.” He told him.
More blank lines appeared on Lei Ling's face. Again, he doesn't know if he should laugh or cry. ”Right. Senior Brother Chen.” He called. ”Why did we hide?” he asked and looked around.
”To spy.” Chen Sheng answered.
Lei Ling turned to him, surprised. ”'spy'?” he asked. ”The Promising Sect?” he said.
It was a long time before Chen Sheng answered. ”... that, too.” He just said.
'too'?
Promising Sect's library – Eternal Library.
”Shifu. Elder Lou.” Chen Han called and bowed before the two elders of their sect. Wu Yuan and Sun Yi followed.
Fei Yin, Li Tian and Feng Mo just stood there, their face blank. Ming Ye and Luo Shi looked at the three disciples of the Newfound Sect.
”Didn't your master teach you to respect others – ” Wu Yuan said and glared at the three.
”You're one to talk.” Fei Yin glared back at him, holding the scabbard of his sword.
Wu Yuan just scoffed. Chen Han's eyes narrowed and glared at Wu Yuan.
Wu Yuan looked away, then turned to Ming Ye and Luo Shi. ”Elder Ming. Shifu.” He called. ”There's no need to be so polite with them since you've seen their attitudes. No wonder that other disciple of theirs has no manners, too – ” he said, frowning. He's referring to Chen Sheng, obviously.
