There was a long deafening silence after Li Jing left the house. Zhao Wei looked around the mansion that he had lived in with her husband for years with a hollow look in her eyes.

She could not understand what has gone wrong. Everything seemed just fine a few days ago. How did everything change? How did she suddenly lose everything?

However, Li Jing was wrong about one thing. She did not do everything due to revenge. Zhao Wei only wanted to prove that Li Xuan was making the wrong mistake by choosing Xu Yilan instead of her.

She had thought that she had proven that she was right when Li Xuan and Xu Yilan divorced. She was going to forget everything and focus her life on her family with Li Jing. She had thought that since Li Jing and Xu Yilan's son had died in the accident, the family was going to choose her son, Li Mu Bai as the next heir.

But years after years, it doesn't seem like Li Ren Xin was going to do that.

After her son had grown up, Li Ren Xin announced that the best among the cousins will inherit the QL Group. It was then that Zhao Wei had planned to do everything to help her son.

He was the eldest male of Li's family. Why does he have to compete with others? It was his right!

Zhao Wei finally snapped out of her trance when she saw a pair of slippers in front of her. She lifted her head and was surprised upon seeing her son, Li Mu Bai stood in front of her.

Suddenly, Zhao Wei was frightened that her son had heard everything that she and Li Jing had argued about. She scrambled to get off the floor and held her son's hands. ”Mu Bai, why are you here?”

It was then that Li Mu Bai realized that from the moment he had picked her up from the station, this was the first time that her mother was really looking at him.

”Mom, are you alright?” Li Mu Bai asked.

”I'm fine.” Zhao Wei quickly forced a smile.

”It's good that you're fine,” Li Mu Bai carefully pulled his hands away from her mother's grip. ”I have talked to our lawyers. Mom, if you plead guilty, there might be a chance that you might reduce your sentences.”

The smile froze on Zhao Wei's face when she suddenly recalled that she will have to be tried for various cases in court. Zhao Wei began to panic. ”Mu Bai, you have to help me. You cannot allow them to put me behind bars.”

”Mom, I cannot help you with those.”

”Why not?” Zhao Wei was getting anxious. ”You are the President of QL Group. Surely you must know a few people. Talk to them. Give them whatever they want. How hard can it be?”

Li Mu Bai stared at her mother for a long time before he broke the news. ”Mom, I have resigned. From now on, I am no longer the President of QL Group.”

”What?” Zhao Wei took a step back. Her eyes widened as she stared at her son in disbelief. When she finally arranged her thoughts seconds later, Zhao Wei leaped forward and banged her fist on Li Mu Bai's ċhėst. ”Why did you quit? Li Mu Bai, you worked hard to get that position! Why did you quit?”

Li Mu Bai stood still as he let his mother continue to hit him on his ċhėst for as long as she wanted. It was not as painful as what he had overheard earlier.
