”I know I am.” Rue chuckled and floated back down, gingerly landing atop his core, looking down at him smugly. ”Now then, oh floating orb. I'm sure you have something you wish to ask of me?”

James looked up, doing his best to focus purely on the pixie's face, as he reeled in his mind. The sooner he figured out what these research options did, the sooner he could go to sleep, and wake up in the real world. Apparently, all the stresses of the last few days of immersed time, along with his hangriness, was really starting to take its toll.
”You know damned well what I am about to ask.” He snaked a tentacle towards the pixie's leg, which she deftly dodged. ”I need to know about these other two research options.” Her dodge led her backwards, where his other tentacle waited, and he grinned internally as he tickled the back of her leg, causing her to lose her balance momentarily, falling off his orb. Normally, he would have offered to catch her, but she had wings, so she righted herself almost instantly after, though her face was now red as she glared at him.
”You're such trouble.”
”Says you.” Seriously, who did she think she was, calling him trouble? Had she met herself? ”Anyways, back to work Rue. We will have more time to have fun after we beat BLANK.”
”That's the first time you've said that without prompting.” She nodded approvingly at him. ”I like it.”
”Well, I have to win, to keep you.”
”Ah, you're going to make me blush.” Her comment was said in a mocking tone, but James was sure he could see a faint bit of color on her cheeks. Ha, success.
”Right, well, let's get to it Rue.” At his prompting, Rue waived her hand, a portal appearing before the two of them.
”After you then, Glyax.” She motioned towards the portal, and James, obediently, floated towards it. He wasn't sure where exactly the portal was going to take him, or what it had to do with his research, but he had come to trust the pixie. Besides, as carefree as she acted, he knew she was deadly serious about beating BLANK, and wouldn't do anything to hurt their chances of winning.
With that thought in mind, James passed through the portal into the unknown. A moment later, as he reappeared in a new location, his eye grew wide. What was going on?
