25 『To the Sky, Brigands I』 (2/2)
He could smell their hormones, pheromones, things he didn't truly recognize consciously, but knew in the back of his mind. To him, it was like the mental math used to calculate the movement on one's arm, it was instinctual.
He licked his lips slightly before he came to a stop, seeing one person remain standing in his path as two men went running past him.
”Hm...?” The Dragon narrowed his eyes on the man. He had strangely blue colored hair and a samurai sword on his hip. ”You're the only one who dare stands to fight against this 'little' dragon. What's your name?” Jack couldn't help but gesture towards the man, who was clearly afraid, with his clawed front right hand.
Brain Unglaus chuckled confidently, covering up for his fear. He believed he could put this beast down, something that would add to his merit and something he could boast about. He was just as powerful as the Kingdom's Head Warrior, which was something people knew his name. ”My name is Brain Unglaus, not that it matters, I will slay you today young Dragon. Just like any other monster that looks down on us humans.”
Jack watched as Brain brought his body low, ready to swing his weapon. A special skill perhaps? The Dragon rolled his jaw at this, and stepped forward, one foot after another.
What was this wavy haired man going to do?
As he entered the blood circle of Brain's special move, in a blink of an eye, he watched as the swords blade came closing in on his neck. To him, it was like slow motion. Then just like that, with a swift and just move of his right hand from the ground, Jack nonchalantly swatted the blade out of the swordsman's hands and into the wall.
His confidence shattered the moment he lost the feeling of his weapon. He froze where he stood, as he was overcome by the fear that only his self-esteem and ego had staved off. ”Monster!”
”Dragon,” Jack corrected with a mocking sneer at the man's fright.
Just as he was about to turn around and book it, screaming, Jack reached out and grabbed the man by the leg with one hand and pushed him to the ground with another.
”Gah!” Brain grunted as he was forced to the ground, only to be flipped over onto his back by force in order for him to look up the dragon towering over him.
Jack's face was mere meters away from Brain's face. ”Your name... Brain Unglaus, I recognize it...” From the knowledge of the dead still in his mind, he knew of this man's reputation. ”Do you wish to become stronger?”
Gritting his teeth, the man glared up at the monster which had him pinned to the dirt. He was looking this way and that for a weapon, but found none.
Huffing a hot air into his face, Jack snarled slightly.
This getting Brain out of his hysterical frenzy, finally processed the question and blinked up at the creature. ”You want to train me...? A human?” The idea of a dragon training him sounded absurd. Since when did Dragons train humans? Most Dragons were prideful and saw other weaker species beneath it with prejudice.
”It's either that or I steal everything from you, starting with that skill you just attempted to use.”
Brain went quiet the moment he had said he would steal everything from him, including a special move that he himself had devised. That was almost instantly even further demoralizing.
”Why are you here... Dragon?”
”The Villagers that your cohorts stole from me. They killed one of them, so I will kill the rest of the brigands.” Jack uttered in mild distaste as he glanced up from the man on the ground towards a small group of people coming to see for themselves what the dragon was doing.
”A dragon coming to save villagers...” Brain feigned a smile as he laid there on the ground, his head of blue hair resting in the dirt. ”That's a first.”
”Plus, I could also use a second lair,” Jack quipped back before taking in a deep breath before letting out a psychic wave of energy from his mouth towards the encroaching group.
In a narrow cave corridor, they had nowhere to go and as they were running away, the wave hit them. Within seconds they started to scream, another few seconds later and they were attacking each other with whatever they could get their hands on.
Brain watched from the ground as those few members of the Death Spreading Brigade were murdering each other. His eyes were wide. This was not a normal dragon, its attack wasn't elemental, it could affect the minds of others.
”What kind of dragon are you...?”
”I am a Mirage,” his eyes rested on Brain, licking his reptilian lips slightly, revealing his perfectly white razor sharp teeth. ”Now you see me, now you don't.”

Vanishing from sight, Brain could still feel the dragon on top of him.
”Oi...” Brain lightly shoved at the dragon's talons which were resting on his legs.
Reappearing as he cancelled out his own spell, he raised a brow at the downed man. ”Your answer to my proposal?”
”And what are you getting out of it?” Brain asked skeptically as Jack removed his clawed hand from him, allowing him to get up and retrieve his sword from the cave wall.
”Results,” Jack cocked his head to the side slightly as he started to wander down the cave corridor. ”My tail is worse than my bite, just so you know.” He'd quip.
Brain stood there behind Jack, his sword loosely in hand. ”Oh... Really... Wouldn't have guessed.” He laughed nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck, before following after the Dragon.
”Didn't I tell you to wait outside?”
”I want to watch...”
