18 18. Portal to Hell (1/2)
It was half an hour later, when Shani came back to tell us that Rain was ready.
”But you! I don't care that you're the king of hell. He's hurting bad... very very bad, you need to...” Shani was telling him off as I shook my head to her, but she was not even looking at me. She was being her fiery little self, trying to defend her friend.
”You will say no such thing witch.” Ranulf got up and his wings move elegantly with his body.
I took her to my back, and she struggle trying to stand up for her friend making him smirked. He knows exactly that I would die for her and he find it amusing.
”Shani! He will not hurt your friend. You need to control yourself if you want to do this. Or I'm going alone with him and you can stay here with Rain!” I said a bit harshly to her.
She was seriously endangering herself, you do not spat the king of hell. He might look tame, but he could do some serious damage. You just don't go off poking a sleeping bear.
She was quiet instantly looking at me, then she huffed and puffed and walk back to Rain and ushered him back to us.
Rain was looking at us with a blank look. It was understandable, I would also lose it if anything happened to Shani.
But what occurred next, makes me wonder if a human could really tame a bear.
Rain was opening his book, then laid out all his stuff on the dinning table. He didn't stop, he didn't look at any of us. He just start placing everything on the table, and continue on with mixing all the ingredients.
I looked at Shani and she said that she had explain everything to Rain, and he had agreed to help her. He was doing this for Shani, which was understandable looking at their closeness just moments ago.
But from the corner of my eye, I could see Ranulf was watching him intensely. He didn't say anything, he just look at him, studying him. But I had known him long enough to know, that he wanted the human. And what he wants, he gets.
I shook my head and decide to focus on Shani. I was still not sure about her coming with me to the pit of hell. At least now we know the who and the why. Maybe we could try and resolve this from above hell, and have Shani away from harms way.
Ranulf was coming to Rain's proximity, the man shuddered as he feels his presence. But then his wing gently wrapped Rain's side making the human look at him.
”You will be just fine my beautiful human...” the angel said as he touch the man's jaw and caressed it slowly.
”What is he trying to do?” Shani looked at me and asked.
”He wants your dear friend, badly. But I didn't know that he has human preference.”
”He's not entirely human, he's a were, he just lost his wolf mate. That's why he had been mourning, and acted carelessly. I'm just devastated that I didn't know about this sooner, he doesn't deserve this. He's such a nice guy.” Shani rest her back to my chest, I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her hair.
”I think he'll be safe with Ranulf, though I still don't know exactly what the king is trying to get from all of this...” my words were cut off when Rain start chanting old language then asked Shani and myself to come closer to him.
”I guess we're doing this now...” she shrugged and take my hand to follow her.
”You're coming with us, we will finish your revenge and give you closure.” Ranulf said to Rain, when a portal dimension slowly start to appear at corner of her dinning area.
Rain who looked tired already nods his head, and followed us into the portal. My heart was beating faster, I was gripping Shani's hand tightly. I didn't want to let her go, I was waiting for the pain to come, but it never did.
It was like we were sheltered by an unseen force field, which allowed us to go through the hellish terrain in our human form. Rain was looking very pale, Shani let go of my hand and try to give her energy to him.
