50 Chapter 50: Sweet consequence (1/2)

”I like you.”

The man was tongue-tied. For a moment there, he didn't know what to say.

'Did she just say, she likes me?'

His heart was pounding in his ears. He could barely hear anything else except for his rapid beating heart and heavy breathing. Sid had his eyes fixed on the woman. His heart swelled with the sight of her. She was apparently blushing. She look awkward and shy while her lips quiver in bashfulness. He could see her shoulders slightly tremble along with her hands as she pull them away to hide under the table. God, so she was just as nervous as he was. His worries slowly dissipate and was replaced with a twinge of hope and joy.

”Y-you like me?” Sid finally found his voice. A profound sense of happiness and passion lit from within him. His warm gaze bore to the delicate woman who was avoiding his face. The Laurice right now looked delectable and alluring. She's all flushed and enigmatic like a blooming flower in spring. She reminded him of his hometown back in Ireland. She reminded him of the rare homegrown flowers they had in the backyard then. That which when they are in full bloom, looked absolutely breathtaking. Laurice was just like a wildflower. A flowering weed. But not that kind of weed that sprout almost anywhere. She's the kind of native wildflower that thrives to survive given the circumstances. The rarest kind. The cultured one. Sid wondered how many more faces can the woman show him. He will gladly unveil all of them as it will be his greatest pleasure. His only guilty pleasure.

”W-well, i don't h-hate you.” Laurice stummered.

Sid arched his eyebrows in amusement. He grinned at the woman who was being defensive. A playful glint flashed his very eyes.

”Can i kiss you, then?” Sid asked.

Laurice inhaled sharply. Her eyes flew wide open.

'How shameless!' Another kiss? No way!

Is it not enough that she confessed already? She was deepy touched with his own confession and felt his sincerity that she decided to give him an honest answer.

”No!” Laurice scoffed, exasperation in her tone.

The man looked even more amused with her expression.

With a cunning smile he said to her, ”Too bad, i won't give you your phone back without a kiss.”

What?!

Laurice shuddered as she lifted her gaze across the man.

'Damn!

She needed that more than anything else! Never mind the purse. It doesn't have any cash on it. She can cancel all her cards anytime. Well, not like Sid needed money from her. But she downloaded some confidential files in that particular phone. Not to mention the manuscripts that were saved in her phone's memory. Some of the drafts needed a few more work and revision but most of them have been completed already! She would bleed if she dares to rewrite them again one by one, word by word.

Her heart quivered.

Basically, everything work related has been stored in that phone's memory. She could not afford to lose it. Since not every file were saved in the cloud software, there is absolutely no way she can retrieved them. Even the God's of computer science can't help her. Apparently. although she can afford to buy a new one, the current one is irreplaceable.

Her eyes filled with unshed tears.

...

Sid almost broke out in laughter. The woman looked absolutely adorable and hilarious at the same time. There was no mistaking that the phone was important to her. He could roughly guess why, given her nature of work and interests. He felt the suddenn urge to tease her some more. He wondered if she would bawl out in tears. But he knew for a fact that that would undeniably break his heart.

”Where's my kiss?” Sid probed.
