167 Donst fall for him (1/2)
Chiamanda tried to open her eyes after the crash, she thought she was dead. She tried to feel her body...remembering the heavy load she felt. Could it be the air bag? is it suppose to be heavy. ”Oh God please don't let any major harm come to any of us” She prayed silently as she opened her eyes.
Bones pulled back and shook his head to clear his head after the crash. He quickly looked at Chiamanda to check if she was alright. She seemed ok but she wasn't opening her eyes. Realising some of his weight was still on her. He pulled back and unbuckled his seatbelt.
”Bones? You covered me?” Chiamanda asked with surprise as she watched him go back to his seat and unbuckled his seatbelt.
”Are you ok, are you hurt anywhere?” Bones asked as he removed some shred of glass from his Jean trouser. He noticed she wasn't answering him. She seemed to be in a daze, maybe she hit her head before he could cover her. ”Chiamanda are you alright?”
Realising she was staring at him. She looked away and tried to unbuckle her seatbelt but she couldn't. ”I should be asking you that Bones. Why did you cover me, what if something bad had happened. Come out of the car I need to take a look at you. And why didn't the airbag work?”
Bones noticed she was struggling with her seatbelt, he leaned over to help her. ”Let me” he tried to but he couldn't. ”I think it's stuck. Just lean back. I need to get my knife.” As he tried to move, he felt a sharp pain in his legs.He made a small sound, ignored the pain and reached for his knife.
Chiamanda noticed the look on his face as he moved his leg. She wouldn't have seen him grimaced if she wasn't watching him closely. ”Are you hurt Bones? please don't try to hide it from me, tell me.”
”I'm fine. We have to get out of the car now. luckily we missed the truck.” He cut her seatbelt and they came out of the car. They were onlookers already. Two military men ran to them to check if they were ok. Bones showed then his ID and they exchanged greetings. They commended his driving and told him of the situation on ground.
Turns out the truck was carrying timber, sawn timber and before it fell, most of the timbers fell on the road blocking the road while the truck fell just after the checkpoint blocking the other side of the road, luckily there was no car coming since most vehicles don't come this way because of the bad road especially at night. There's was no going and coming for anyone. The road will have to be cleared first before anyonecan leave. And the nearest hospital is in the Capital which was an hour drive away.
Thanks officer. I understand it's going to be difficult to get the timber off the road since it will be dark soon and you are concerned about the safety of others heading this way. Thank you both, you can go on with your job. We'll be fine, we'll just head into the village.
There was no hotel in the small village. The villagers were nice enough to give them a room to pass the night. Bones couldn't make any calls as they was no reception. He knew the news will be everywhere, that there was a roadblock and that people should avoid the road. He didn't want Ms Sky to worry, so he went out to meet the soldiers to find a way to communicate with Ms Sky.
Chiamanda was worried about Bones leg, she got some herbs from the villagers and waited patiently for him to return. She noticed him limp as he walked away but he tried to cover it up.
Bones didn't look at the room they gave them, he only thanked them and went out to meet the soldiers. When he got back, he knocked before he entered the room. He noticed it was small, there was a mat in the middle with big blankets folded neatly. A lamp by the side of the room and a small chair close to the mat that had some plates on it.
”Come sit Bones, let me take a look at your leg. The villagers offered us food, let's eat it before it gets cold.” Chiamanda said as she urged him to sit.
”It's nothing. I think I sprained my ankle. You eat and rest. I'll stay guard outside, maybe we can follow the tractors back to the capital or something.” Bones turned to leave
”Just what could go wrong in this village? you don't need to stay outside and watch. You worry too much, for once take off your uniform and relax.” She stood up and went to him. She took his hand and dragged him to the mat. This accident proves one thing Bones, and that is, anything can happen anytime to anyone. Accidents happen. Thank God you were able to spot the truck in time and thank God for your driving skills.”
