”I have loved you for years, Cali, from the moment you said hello to me, but don't worry… I understand what you meant but let me at least tell you I love you…” Kane courageously stated.
Then he added, ”Did that doctor ever tell you he loves you?”
Cali was caught off guard with that question. 'Come to think of it. She never heard Rui say I love you to her, but she hadn't told him the words too…' Cali mused.
”Not yet. I haven't said it to him as well. We don't need words from each other to realise the love between us, because action speaks louder than words. I know Rui loves me because I can feel it in his every action and the way he cares about me.” Cali defended with pouty lips.
Kane saw that glint of hesitation in Cali's eyes as though she was trying to defend Rui.
”We both know that sometimes only actions are not enough Cali. It's so easy for men to treat any woman a little nicely. It's the nature of most men to be sweet to all women, so women easily fall prey to it or misinterpret it. There's a big difference between liking and loving someone Cali. You can like a woman but not necessarily love her. You never know what's really going inside a man's head and a man's heart unless he becomes vocal about it.” Kane explained, finding the opportunity to give Cali a bigger picture.
”You also… You have to assess yourself if what you're feeling for Rui is really love and not merely an infatuation. You're so young Cali… That's why you should not rush into marriage. You like Rui because he happened to be somewhat like the man of your dreams. He's your ideal type, Cali, but that doesn't mean you love him already.” Kane added.
He felt he was doing the right thing for Cali to think things straight.
Cali had a serious expression and heaved a long deep sigh before looking straight into Kane's eyes and firmly said, ”I appreciate your concern Kane. I'm sorry if this will break your heart. No matter what you say… Nothing will change because no one knows me better than myself. I know what I'm feeling and I love Rui. I like you and I love you as a brother so please… If you want me to remain as your sister, stop spurting nonsense or else I will never see you again just for you to get over me and move on.”
