Chapter 354 - No Ordinary Scientists (1/2)

Dr. Li connected some equipment to Halia's head so he could run a few tests. He wanted to read her brain signals and see if she reacted to certain triggers. It was a way for him to determine which memories and knowledge she still had in her head.

He showed Halia a few photos of Sara's old friends that Halia had never seen before and there was no response from her brain. ”Have you seen any of these people before or do they look familiar to you at all?” Dr. Li asked.

Halia shook her head.

He then showed her a photo of Sara in the hospital. When she was a child, she had gotten into a car accident with her parents and broken her leg.

Once again, Halia looked at the photo and had no response.

Dr. Li wrote down his findings.

He then gave her a multiple-choice paper with some questions about bombs and weapons.

Halia looked at the paper and frowned. Although she remembered a few brief things from when she had knowledge from the bombs and weapons specialist, she couldn't even answer half the paper confidently.

She glanced at her husband with slight embarrassment. Back when she was undercover and investigating him, she had helped him build a bomb and even defused a bomb on his body. What if...he fell in love with her because he was impressed by those skills. Would he be disappointed?

But, next to Jackson, Eric was softly explaining the reason why they had chosen Halia and why she was their first and only human subject. Not only was Jackson not disappointed, he was even more impressed by his wife. Besides, he never fell in love with her because of how good she was at defusing bombs or how well she solved crimes and fought. From the moment he first met her at the hospital he was already drawn to her. There was something about her brave, s.e.xy, yet adorable character that he couldn't get enough of.

After confirming that Halia fought recently with the Captain's skills and also accessed Trojan's memory, Dr. Li came to the conclusion that the memories and knowledge did, indeed, only last for 3 months like they originally predicted. And, apart from a little incident where Sara's memories tried to take control of Halia's body, there were no issues after she became aware of it.

Dr. Li spread his arms and gave Halia a hug, ”Congratulations on becoming a mother soon. Take good care of yourself. We will look forward to your return.” Although he didn't want to say goodbye to such an important asset, he had grown close to Halia and he wanted her to have a safe and smooth pregnancy, so he did not try to stop her.

He looked like a mad scientist but he was actually very understanding and compassionate; he had a daughter and grandchild too, so he could relate. If not, the technology he created had the potential to do a lot of evil.

By the time Halia and Jackson left the police department, it was already late and most of the officers had gone home. Only a couple of night shift officers remained seated at the front desk in case there were any walk-in reports. From the front desk, the officers could not see the people that walked in and out of the police chief's office, so Dr. Li and his lab assistants usually finished work at this time. As long as no one saw them come out of the police chief's office, they simply thought they worked for the coroner or forensics department. It had been that way for many years.

But, across the street, a pair of eyes watched as the old man walked out with Dr. Eric Ren and waved goodbye to Halia and Jackson. With her years of experience, she knew these two men were something more than just ordinary scientists...

...

Meanwhile, in Shanghai, Avaleigh hung up her phone and looked at Danson uncomfortably. ”Let's return to Hong Kong tonight! I'm not tired,” she said.
