Chapter 253 - The Will (1/2)

”But, I suspect that Mars Wu is an accomplice,” the officer said.

”I can guarantee that he is not an accomplice, now let him go,” the Captain replied firmly.

The officer nodded his head with respect and went to open the door even though he didn't want to. Who was this little legal assistant? Why would the Captain personally come down to get him released? Did he have another identity? Were they working together?

”You can go,” he said as he looked at Halia uncomfortably.

Halia looked towards the door and noticed Captain Tang standing outside. The man gave her a wink and she quickly got up.

”I told you to get Captain Tang ages ago. We wouldn't have wasted so much time if you listened to me from the start,” Halia frowned as she walked out.

The officer lowered his head and stepped back. But, he snuck a glance at Halia as she walked out. Mars Wu: was he a snitch or a spy?

...

By the time Halia returned to the office, Jackson had already left.

”Mars, you're finally back. We received a huge client while you were gone. Morton needs your help, hurry inside,” Morton's secretary said in a panic as soon as she saw Halia.

A big client had arrived unexpectedly and there was a lot of paperwork involved, but there was no one available to help Morton, so he was swamped with work.

Halia was like a savior at that moment, so the secretary immediately pushed her into Morton's office.

Morton's office was eerily quiet because no one dared to enter and disturb him. When Halia entered, the sudden noise caused Morton to subconsciously lift his head in annoyance. ”Didn't I say not to disturb me?” he growled.

Halia immediately stopped in her tracks and looked at the man nervously. ”I just got back and I was told that you needed help. If you don't want to be disturbed, I can leave,” she said softly as she began to turn back around.

Hearing the familiar voice, Morton realized it was Mars and his gaze immediately softened. ”Oh, it's you, come here. I didn't realize it was you. We received a big client and there are a lot of doc.u.ments to prepare, I've been waiting for you to help me. We may need to do some overtime tonight.”

Halia approached the man with curiosity. What client did they receive? Judging by the stack of doc.u.ments in front of Morton, there was a lot of work to do. She was hoping to receive a new client so she could see how Morton dealt with them, but she didn't expect to do overtime.

After all, her fiance was finally back in Beijing and she wanted to go home to see him. She didn't want to spend the evening with another man.

”Isn't anyone else helping with this case? Are we staying back on our own? Just you and me?” Halia asked.

Morton noticed the discomfort on Halia's face and smiled to himself. Why was she so adorable?

”Everyone else is busy with their own cases. You don't need to worry. We are both men. It's not like I'm going to eat you up,” Morton teased.

Halia smiled awkwardly and nodded her head. This man obviously knew she was a woman. Last night, he almost made a move on her when he thought she was Mars.

”So how can I help?” she asked as she quickly changed the subject.

Morton handed Halia a stack of doc.u.ments. ”These are the details of our client and the will he would like drafted. Our client owns property and assets in France, Hong Kong, Macau, and China. I need you to research the laws in France, Hong Kong and Macau to ensure that our client's will has no problems. I will start drafting one with the information I have and we can go over it together later,” he instructed.
