Chapter 249 - Intruder (1/2)
”Did you find what you were looking for?” Emerson asked Halia quietly as they walked out of the room.
Halia pointed to her handbag and nodded her head. She was certain that she had everything she needed now.
Emerson looked at Halia in surprise. How did she manage to get evidence when Morton was sitting right there in the room with her? She was a lot more impressive than he thought.
Not too far behind them, Morton looked at Roy awkwardly, ”Is that really Haili Feng from Fengtai Corporation?”
Roy nodded his head, ”She came in with Emerson. Also, you should have seen Marissa's face when she saw her. She looked like she was ready to strangle her at any moment.”
Morton furrowed his brows with discomfort. It seemed, he had really made a mistake. After all, there was no reason for Haili Feng, the director and heiress of Fengtai Corporation, to dress up as a man and work at his law firm as a law assistant. That made absolutely no sense. Especially since they had never met before.
But, this misunderstanding got him thinking: why was he so excited when he thought Halia was Mars? Was it because he liked Mars?
That night, Halia returned home after a long day of costume changes. As she walked into the bedroom and threw off her wig, she looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. Her hair had been cut into a pixie cut, the shortest her hair had ever been. ”How long will this take to grow back?” she sighed to herself. She then grabbed some makeup remover and started removing the makeup on her face.
As she moved in closer to the mirror and gently wiped off her mascara, she suddenly noticed a dark shadow from the corner of her eye. ”Who's there?” she gasped. Halia turned her head quickly and noticed the curtains fluttering in the window. She quickly patted her chest in relief. She must have left the window open. She scurried over to close the window and laughed at her own paranoia.
This was one of the disadvantages of living on her own. Sometimes, when she was on her own, her imagination would get the better of her.
Halia looked at the time, it was almost midnight. She really needed some rest before another day at work, so she quickly unzipped her dress and headed towards the bathroom. But, just as she stepped foot into the bathroom, all the lights in the house suddenly switched off.
Halia quickly looked around in surprise. Did something short circuit? That didn't make sense, she only had the lights on. Was there a blackout?
Halia rubbed her eyes and tried to adjust them to the darkness. She had to remain calm.
But, just as she removed her hands and looked around again, she suddenly felt something blowing lightly on the back of her neck.
She definitely closed the window earlier.
Where was this wind coming from?
Her mind began to wander again. Last time, she had frightened Emma Wu by pretending to be a ghost. What if she somehow upset the spirits and they decided to give her a taste of her own medicine? But, she was a good person. Did ghosts target good people?
Halia squealed and felt chills down her spine.
”I'm sorry, I won't pretend to be a ghost ever again!” she exclaimed.
Behind her, she suddenly heard an evil chuckle.
Halia froze as she felt her hairs stand on end. Why was this suddenly happening? Was this a dream? Had she been working too hard? Or...was this a memory of someone in her mind? But, memories didn't usually feel like this.
Just as Halia was trying to figure out what was happening, she suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around her body.
The touch was warm and solid.
