Chapter 291 - Parting Ways (2/2)
Then Mercury suddenly bent over and puked as the realization came to him, he had killed those eight men, his eyes spun before everything around him went dark…
When Mercury awoke it was night, at least he assumed from the chill in the air, he quickly set himself up as he looked around, he was inside his tent, he quickly crawled out of the tent and was surprised to find Molly sitting and tending a fire, he tapped his foot against the ground to make a cane which he grabbed with his right hand and leaned some weight on it as he walked over to Molly
”...Surprised to see you here”
Molly looked back, as she had already heard him coming over she was not surprised, she simply asked him
”...What happened earlier?”
Mercury gave a wry smile and sat down next to her leaning his cane against his leg as he looked into the fire a bit before he answered slightly hesitating
”Would you believe me if I told you that I don't know?”
”No”
Mercury gave a sigh and gazed into the fire as he remained silent for a bit before he spoke again
”Would you believe me if I told you that I don't have any memory from before a week ago?”
”...No”
”I see… Then it's here we part ways”
Mercury got up and walked back to his tent, then he slowly began packing it down, he got stuck around midway and began getting frustrated with the tent
”Fucking… Piece of shit!”
Then he picked up his backpack and simply left his half-packed tent before he began walking away from the campfire towards the east leaving Molly behind at the fire…
As the daylight began shining upon Mercury he was still walking east, he wasn't mad, in fact, didn't feel anything about Molly not believing him after all they had barely know each other for a week, what he did feel angry about however was how he had lost control
”...Immortal huh…”
Mercury didn't know what it meant only that it had something to do with his past life, it seemed that the 'erasure of unnecessary memories' meant but clearly, it had only partially erased some of his memories leading to the current drastic and sudden change in personality he had experienced while under stress, or at least that was his self-diagnostic
”You should almost think I was some kind of doctor in my past life…”
Mercury gave a sigh as he tapped his cane against the ground and impaled a lion-like monster that was sneaking up on him, well it really wasn't sneaking up on him it just entered the 20-meter safety radius he had kept around himself, that and it was kind of drooling while it looked at him so maybe it was sneaking up on him after all?
Well whatever, Mercury drew his sword and walked up to it before he began cutting into its body, next to the heart he found what looked like a clear-ish rock the size of a fist
”Well, it isn't really a rock…. But a monster core”
Mercury held the monster core up towards the sunlight before he put it into his backpack where there were already several monster cores, let's just say that the night had bright a harvest to him, after all depending on the size one monster core could sell for up to 500 cel
”With these, I should be able to afford a trip of this content… Or maybe not”
Mercury knew he was on a content thanks to Party one of hundreds on Alfan
'With what I have seen so far Alfan has got to be several times bigger than my old world… Or maybe my frame of reference is too small?'
Mercury gave a shrug as he kept walking, he figured that it only would be about half a day until he reached the next city so he simply kept on walking in the same steady tempo and sure enough the walls of a city came into view around evening from there he simply walked up to the gate and showed his hunters guild plate as identification before the guard gave him a clap on the shoulder
”Welcome to Ofrences hunter”
”...Thanks”
With that welcome Mercury walked into the city and found a restaurant where he not one but three full meals before he patted his stomach in satisfaction
'And off to the guild we go…'
He ignored the waitress' odd look as he walked out of the restaurant, then he asked around for a bit and eventually found his way to the hunters guild where he walked in and queued up and waited for his turn at the reception, he zoned out slightly as he waited but soon it was his turn
”Welcome to the hunter's guild, what can I help you with today?”
