206 A Good Life (2/2)

”What's with you? Why do you get startled easily?” Jeru asked, sounding irritated as he quickly pulled her hand under the faucet.

'What is he getting irritated at me for? What can I do if I get startled easily!?' Thea complained silently but couldn't help to pout. She was often like that. She would easily get startled at the smallest things. But she couldn't help it. This was the result of having to live in constant fear for so many years.

Thea pulled her hand from his grip and said, ”It's okay… It's not a big deal… Go and eat…”

Jeru followed after her to sit at the dining table. It felt a little bit strange because it was the first time someone had cooked for him like this. Of course, when he was still living at the main family house, there had been a lot of servants who would tend to his daily affairs. But this just felt different. It gave him the feeling of being looked after. And although it was still a little bit awkward, he actually liked it.

He saw Thea starting to eat so he followed. After getting a bite of the egg pancake, his appetite seemed to increase and he unconsciously got himself more as he chowed down his food wholeheartedly. Thea chuckled at the sight of it and whispered, ”Slow down… You'll get indigestion if you eat like that.”

Jeru then realized how he was just gobbling up his food and felt slightly embarrassed, but he simply commented, ”This is good… You can really cook. Where did you learn?”

Her mouth curved into a smile as she said, ”I learned from Zach's mom. She's the best cook…”

Jeru nodded as his gaze strolled over her face absently. He wondered if he should ask Thea about her family, although he already knew based on her profile information that she was an orphan.

”You are quite close with Zach's family…” Jeru mumbled unconsciously. Thea nodded and said, ”They were the only family that treated me like their own. I grew up in the orphanage. I don't really know about my real family…”

Jeru looked at her and casually offered, ”Do you want to find out about them? I mean your real family? I can help you with that.”

Thea pursed her lips and murmured, ”No… It's okay. I'm not interested at all. They left me at the orphanage when I was a baby. It only means they don't want me.”

Then she added hesitatingly, ”Besides, I don't want to owe you more than I already have...”

Jeru grinned and commented, ”You can pay back every piece of information that you want to know by cooking like this.”

Thea's eyes suddenly widened and sparkled as she suggested, ”How about I also pay my debt to you from before by cooking like this?”

Jeru laughed and Thea wondered what was so funny about her suggestion. She was still looking at him with anticipation when Jeru looked back at her closely and said, ”That one is a huge debt and cooking for me definitely would not settle it.”

Thea was speechless and her mouth fell open. She was thinking what kind of payment Jeru would possibly ask for that debt. ”Can't you just let it go?” She muttered helplessly.

”No!” Jeru answered firmly as he continued to eat. Thea gnashed her teeth as she whispered, ”Fine… How about you choke on your food right now?”

”What did you say?” Jeru asked, he wanted to make sure he heard it right.

Thea smiled scornfully at him before she stood up and went up to her room to brush her teeth. ”I said… eat well and enjoy the food…”
