206 A Good Life (1/2)

Thea let out a long deep sigh as she looked at the electric fences protecting the whole area of Jeru's house from the veranda of her room. This was better than staying at the safe house or the Military Base. At least she could go out to work.

It was still dark outside. Today, she woke up early to prepare breakfast for Jeru and herself. Before she moved in with him, Jeru was living all by himself in the new house. He didn't have a live-in housekeeper to help him with the management of his household affairs. Only a trusted cleaning lady would come once in a while to clean the house.

She had noticed that Jeru never bothered to have his breakfast at home before he went out every morning. He asked if she wanted to grab some breakfast somewhere yesterday, but she refused saying she would eat at the office instead. So cooking for him and preparing his breakfast was the least she could do for him.

She walked out of her room and went downstairs. A high-tech surveillance system with indoor and outdoor video security cameras complete with face recognition system were installed in every corner of the house. As soon as an unfamiliar face was detected, the alarm system would immediately send a signal to Jeru's security team from the Liu Group.

It had become her daily routine now where Jeru would drop her off at work and pick her up again after work. She was thankful that he remained relaxed and natural with her and he would only talk to her when necessary.

But she still felt a bit awkward around him.

She was thinking about what she should cook as she made her way to the kitchen to check what kind of things Jeru had in there.

If there was one thing that she could be proud of about herself was her cooking skills. She could cook really well because she had learned from Zach's mom, Auntie Sheila. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

She let out another sigh at the thought of Zach's family whom she had a chance to meet again at the Military Base. Lyra had explained everything to them and she was glad and relieved that they no longer hated her.

She would not forget how tightly Auntie Sheila had hugged her as they both cried. She told her, ”My poor child… You must have suffered a great deal. I hope you can start a new and have a good life ahead now…”

”A good life ahead...” Thea whispered as she opened Jeru's kitchen cabinets. She too hoped for it… But first and foremost, she was hoping for Zach's safe and sound return.

Her forehead furrowed seeing there was nothing inside the cabinet. She then went to check the refrigerator next.

”What's this?” her eyes widened in shock seeing that there was nothing in the refrigerator except some bottled water, juice and beers. She asked one of the soldiers who was guarding outside to buy her some groceries from the nearby market.

It was a good thing that the market was open 24/7 and only ten minutes away from the house, so the soldier came back in no time at all. She preferred to eat a warm meal at breakfast so she cooked some fresh and fragrant rice noodle soup as well as some flavorful egg pancakes wrapped in a deep-fried crispy dough, sliced and topped with fried egg, finely chopped mustard pickles, scallions, coriander and a spicy sauce.

She cooked enough to also feed the soldiers outside.

”I should go to the grocery store and buy some more ingredients later,” she mumbled. She was not used to staying in a place with an empty refrigerator. She would need to stock the refrigerator up with all kinds of fresh produce and ingredients so she could always prepare some hearty and healthy meals for Jeru.

After she was done with cooking, she quickly went back up to her room to take a shower and get ready for work. She sent Jeru a message to let him know that she had prepared breakfast and told him to join her at the dining table.

”Good morning,” she heard Jeru greet her from behind. She was startled that she spilled some hot water on her right hand.

”Ouch…” she whispered.
