Lu Man stopped walking when she saw Mu Yunhai standing next to Wang Yunxi in their wedding clothes. Her heart hurt.

That man, that bridegroom was the man whom she thought would be by her side for the rest of her life. She thought that they would be together forever!

She thought that they would always be together. She thought that his entire life would be with her. She thought that…

But, he was not marrying her now.

“It felt like a long time ago. I thought that I’d finally let it go. I thought that I’d forgotten all about it. But, some ridiculous thoughts still escape me sometimes. I dreamed that all of it was all but a dream. That it is not real. That I could still be with him when I wake up one day. We would be living ordinary lives. We would marry each other, have kids, and grow old together.”

She could not help but burst into tears.

She did not cry when that incident had happened. But, she was crying now.

It was because it had finally dawned on her that it was all over now. It had come to an end at last!

Pei Xiuyuan’s eyes darkened. He hugged her waist tightly. “You’re my wife now! You’re Pei Xiuyuan’s wife now!”

‘Don’t you cry for another man!’

“I know… I know…” She cried even more vigorously.

She knew that it was all over between her and Mu Yunhai when Wang Yunxi appeared that day. They could never return to how it was before. Her wish would never be fulfilled now.

She knew that all along.

But, still she could not accept the truth wholeheartedly.

She did not want Mu Yunhai to come crawling back to her. She had let him go indeed.

But, what she could not let go was her life before this. She could not let go of the man who had loved her dearly and solely. She could not let go of how she had yearned for that beautiful and happy life that she had pictured before.

They had promised to stay with each other for the rest of their lives. But, both of them were married to different people now.

“If you know that, just stop crying. You’re mine now. You can only think about me!” He held her face in his hands. He forced her to look at him. He gave her an order.

Lu Man could only cry ceaselessly.

Those tears flowed down her cheek and into his palms. It was warm.

His heart soon softened.

He sighed and helped her to wipe away her tears.

“There, there. Stop crying now. Don’t ruin your makeup. Plus, later your eyes will be swollen. How can you take your revenge on them looking like this?”

Lu Man closed her eyes and stopped her overflowing emotion after a long while. “I need to go to the washroom.”

“I’ll accompany you.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I insist.”

Lu Man was speechless.

Finally, she gave in. “Fine.”

Pei Xiuyuan waited outside when she went into the washroom.

He rarely smoked but now he took out a cigarette and smoked. He looked out the window.

Lu Man saw that he was filled with grief when she came out of the washroom. She approached him.

Pei Xiuyuan put out the cigarette when he heard her footsteps. He wanted to keep her away from secondhand smoke.

“I’m sorry,” Lu Man said. She should not have lost it just now. She should not have said what she had said just now.

“What I want is never your apology.”
