“It could not be helped.” Pei Xiuyuan was on the phone the whole way home. She did not dare to interrupt him. She was still in a daze then and that was why she did not ask for his phone number.

“That goddamn bitch!” Hou Qingqing scolded angrily.

Although Mu Yunhai had broken up with Lu Man, Wang Yunxi still felt that it was not enough for her. She did not want Lu Man to stay at Haicheng. She had even ordered the office that Lu Man was working for to fire Lu Man. She did not allow Lu Man any chance to land herself in literally any job. She wanted to force her to leave Haicheng.

Lu Man was a prideful person. As she could not find a job, she opened her own office and searched for job opportunities online. She refused to leave Haicheng.

She assumed that Wang Yunxi could not do anything to her anymore. In fact, she was just too naive! She did not know that this world was a place where you could do anything as long as you were loaded with money. If someone wanted you dead, you would surely be harmed even if you stayed at home.

Ten days ago, the police came to meet Lu Man. They claimed that Lu Man was suspected of a robbery and that they needed her there in the police station to help with the investigation. Both of them were stunned. Why was she suspected of robbery when she had always stayed at home?

They assumed that it was just a misunderstanding. But, they realized that they were wrong when Lu Man gave her full cooperation in the investigation.

It was not a misunderstanding! Someone had framed her!

It was a million-dollar cheque that Lu Man had donated before. The people from the foundation realized that the cheque was robbed from someone else when they wanted to retrieve the money.

So, they investigated the case and they found Lu Man. They claimed that she had robbed someone’s bag to gain that cheque. But, she was afraid of being caught and that was when she donated the cheque to the foundation.

She was soon locked up when she went to the police station. There were witnesses and material evidence to prove that she was indeed guilty.

Fortunately, Liang Feiyue who was Lu Man’s friend came to her rescue. She was an outstanding lawyer. She successfully found a loophole in the case and Lu Man was then released on bail.

Feiyue told Lu Man that she was able to protect Lu Man for only a short while. If Wang Yunxi did not stop there and then, she could not help Lu Man anymore given that it was how the law of the jungle worked in this world. They did not care whether you have committed the crime or not. They did not even bother about your innocence.

She would be imprisoned for at least three years if she was found guilty.

She had no other choice but to look for other witnesses or material evidence if she did not want to be imprisoned. She needed to prove that Wang Yunxi was the one who handed her the cheque.

But, nobody dared to be her witness when she had approached the bridal gown shop. The video from the security camera on that day had disappeared for no reason at all.

She had no choice but to go and meet Mu Yunhai. But, she could not locate him. She heard from his colleagues that he had taken a month off. His mother was not around either. She did not know whether his actions were intentional or not. The fact was that she did not know where he was. She could find no one to prove her innocence.

She knew full well how pathetic weak people were at that very moment. How cheap her life was! It was just like an ant’s and people could simply kill it with just a simple flick of the finger!

She did not want to be locked up in jail! She did not want her life to be ruined like that!

Feiyue recently heard from a friend that the wealthy bachelor of Haicheng—Pei Xiuyuan wanted to get married. He was going on blind dates to find his match. She had used up a lot of connections to inquire about the location where he was going on his blind dates.

Lu Man had made a lot of preparations before she went there. Although she was determined to win him over, she knew full well that the chances of her success were scarce. But, she never thought that she would succeed just like that. It was so easy…

Qingqing felt like it was all but a dream. Lu Man had the same kind of feeling too.

“By the way, why don’t you go to the Gu Enterprise and ask for his phone number tomorrow?” Hou Qingqing slapped her thigh and exclaimed.

“Fine.”

After that, Qingqing called Liang Feiyue and told her the good news. Liang Feiyue who was always calm and cool exclaimed out of excitement when she received the good news. She could not believe it.

Recently, Lu Man had not been sleeping well. After that day, she could finally get a good night’s rest.

That sleep was indeed deep and good.

Suddenly, she heard some music when she was happily dreaming in her sleep. That music sounded so familiar. She was trying to recall where she had heard it before. Finally, she realized that it was her phone’s ringtone. Hence, she woke up.

She found that it was an unknown number. She was annoyed. Who would disturb other people so early in the morning?

“Hello…” She sounded sleepy on the phone.

A deep and nice voice came through the phone. “Did I wake you up?”

“Yes.” Lu Man found that the voice familiar but she could not seem to place who was on the other side of the phone.

Pei Xiuyuan was vexed at having woken her up. “I’ll make it up to you when I’m back.”
