Chapter 534 - Chapter 534: Chapter 541: Come and Catch Someone (2/2)
“Forget it, I was just joking with you. I’ve already married a first wife and, both publicly and privately, I can’t divorce her without cause. You, Su Wenyue, are a person of integrity and pride; how could you be a concubine? That would be an insult to you. I would never dare to entertain such an idea, nor could I bear to let you endure such humiliation. Han Yu might have failed to protect you this time, but setting that aside, he truly is a Good man and a suitable match for you. The two of you should live well together,” Sikong Ling conceded, his emotions turning over and over inside, recognizing that he lacked such fortune.
Su Wenyue saw the sincerity in Sikong Ling’s words and felt quite moved inside, but she responded with a cunning smile, “Good, that’s what you said, and I will take your advice and get along well with Han Yu from now on. Since you’ve given up on that idea, shouldn’t you let Han Yu and me leave Peach Blossom Valley?”
Although she already had a way to leave Peach Blossom Valley, being able to leave openly and easily would still be better and less trouble, and would spare Han Yu the risk of finding out.
“No way,” replied Sikong Ling without a moment’s hesitation, his refusal instantly frustrating Su Wenyue.
Su Wenyue’s eyes widened in surprise; she had thought after Sikong Ling’s speech, he would have given up and agreed, but instead, he rejected her. What did that mean? Was he toying with her?
“Hey, Sikong Ling, do you find this amusing? After clearly saying you wouldn’t pester me any further, you continue to keep Han Yu and me trapped in this valley. Isn’t that a little unfair? Are you even a man?” she challenged.
“No need to try to provoke me with reverse psychology. Your little schemes might work on your Han Yu, but not on me. They’re simply not enough,” Sikong Ling said, his face and tone shifting back to one that dared her irritation.
“Sikong Ling, you’re nothing but a bastard. I was a fool to believe you. Liar,” Su Wenyue practically fumed, unable to accept his refusal and mockery, diminishing her intelligence—this was intolerable.
“Say whatever you like, but what’s decided is decided. I’m not going to let you go willingly. If Han Yu wants to take you out, he can figure out his own way. If he doesn’t have the ability to do so, he doesn’t deserve to be your man. Don’t worry yourself with such matters; they are for men to deal with. There, there,” Sikong Ling concluded, then picked up his bowl and chopsticks to start eating the dishes Su Wenyue had specially made for him, determined not to waste them.
Seeing Sikong Ling so nonchalant, Su Wenyue deflated. What was the point of her getting angry if he was enjoying his meal without a care? Besides, the spicy dishes had already been removed from the table by Sikong Ling, leaving her with little appetite. She sat there foolishly, begrudging how eagerly Sikong Ling ate while internally begrudging him.
As Sikong Ling had expected, upon returning and not finding Su Wenyue, Han Yu inquired about her whereabouts and immediately came to fetch her.
Seeing Su Wenyue’s bright red lips—a clear sign of indulging in spicy food, and not just a little—Han Yu felt a tickling rage. The girl was just too disobedient, too infuriating: “Su Wenyue, are you still a three-year-old toddler, or what? How could you not understand and do such a sneaky thing as stealing food!”
“Well, if you hadn’t denied it to me, would I have needed to? Besides, I didn’t eat much. It won’t be a problem,” Su Wenyue softly protested, her voice carrying a hint of defiance. She had planned to mold Han Yu into a doting husband, but somehow, things had gone awry. Instead, she was tamed by Han Yu into compliance.
