Chapter 534: Chapter 541: Come and Catch Someone

Sikong Ling watched Su Wenyue continue without any intention of stopping and was somewhat dumbfounded. He quickly intervened, realizing that not only was Su Wenyue just recovering from a serious illness, but even Ordinary people would have problems if they suddenly ate something so spicy. It seemed that Han Yu’s control had been too harsh. The saying “too much of a good thing can be a bad thing” was proven, as it had led to Su Wenyue’s extreme craving.

“I’ll eat one more piece!” Su Wenyue also knew that sudden spicy indulgence could upset her body, but being suppressed by Han Yu for so long had intensified her craving. Once she started eating, she couldn’t stop herself—it really wasn’t satisfying enough.

“Not even one piece!” Sikong Ling saw Su Wenyue extending her chopsticks toward the spicy dish again and promptly blocked her, fearing she might indeed get sick from these foods. He saw Su Wenyue glaring at him.

“Glaring at me will do you no good, you really can’t eat anymore. Why don’t you try something else? These dishes taste good too, and they’re not spicy, just right for you to eat,” Sikong Ling said, signaling the Servants to take away the bowls filled with chili, and ordered some porridge to be prepared.

“Come on, how can you be like a child? You’re grown up; you should know how to control yourself when eating. Have you ever seen anyone eating chilies like this? If you make yourself sick, then what?” Sikong Ling unconsciously adopted a scolding tone. He was starting to understand Han Yu’s feelings; no wonder Han Yu sometimes looked so helpless and troubled.

Su Wenyue didn’t take it to heart. “It’s fine, I know my limits. I’ve eaten more than this before without any issues. But having just a little bit is far from enough to satisfy the craving. It’s all Han Yu’s fault for being such a strict controller. Eating is one of life’s greatest joys, and having restrictions on it takes all the pleasure away.”

For a while now, Su Wenyue had been under strict control by Han Yu, with no one to confide her frustrations in, bottling up until she couldn’t help venting to Sikong Ling, expressing her ‘misery.’

“That’s why I’m saying you’d be better off with me. I definitely wouldn’t control you like Han Yu does; you could do whatever you like, how liberating that would be,” Sikong Ling said, jesting in response to Su Wenyue’s words, but he knew it was an impossibility and treated it as a joke.

“Oh please, your Sikong Mansion’s backyard is just a cage bigger than a prison cell, with all sorts of rules and those troublesome women. If I entered, it would be like jumping into a fire pit. I’m not stupid!” Su Wenyue retorted, clearly annoyed. Having spent the better part of her previous life in the Sikong Family’s backyard, she knew exactly what it was like and wasn’t about to be fooled by Sikong Ling.

“If you don’t like to stay with the Sikong Family, I can arrange for you to live outside, so you won’t have to deal with those women. When I travel far, I’ll take you with me, take you to different places for fun, and ensure you won’t be restricted.”

“And then what, under what status? As a Concubine or a Concubine Aunt, or a little girl? Surely you don’t mean to give me the status of Legal Wife,” Su Wenyue said, her voice laced with sarcasm and a hint of desolation, hinting at her previous life, when she was deceived by Sikong Ling’s sweet words and trapped in the Mansion.

Sikong Ling had initially wanted to continue joking, but upon hearing Su Wenyue’s poignant tone, the words stuck in his throat, as if speaking another line would surge guilt and shame through him.
