When Han Yu returned, he saw Sikong Ling fleeing with his head in his hands, running out of his room in disarray. Was this the young master of the Sikong family? It seemed rather comical. He had barely had time to make sense of it when he heard his daughter-in-law shouting angrily inside as if she was at her wits’ end. Then he saw her at the doorstep with a big stick, chasing after the poor guy like a raging lioness.

Han Yu squinted his eyes to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. But the scene before him was so ludicrous, and the servants in the courtyard were equally astonished, their jaws nearly hitting the floor.

“What’s going on here?” Han Yu rubbed the space between his eyebrows, which was throbbing a bit more rapidly.

Upon seeing Han Yu, Su Wenyue dropped her ferocious façade, and the stick in her hand clattered to the ground. She suddenly took on a pitiful demeanor, shifting gears so quickly that it was jarring.

“Husband, you’re finally back. Hurry, catch that bastard Sikong Ling. I must beat him to a pulp today.”

“Indeed, women and nasty people are difficult to deal with. A gentleman should use his words, not his hands. If you can’t talk someone down, you shouldn’t let anger drive you to violence. Han Yu, you really need to take control of your daughter-in-law. Look what she’s become. If you don’t discipline her properly, she’ll end up ruling over you,” Sikong Ling, seeing Han Yu’s arrival, stopped running. He stood in the courtyard, speaking to Han Yu with words that could infuriate anyone. Su Wenyue was on the verge of hopping mad. If Han Yu hadn’t been there, she would’ve picked up the stick again to beat Sikong Ling. At least she remembered to maintain her image in front of Han Yu.

“Han Yu, you’re just going to let people bully your woman like that! If you don’t give Sikong Ling a good thrashing today, then you’re not my man!” Su Wenyue continued heatedly.

“What exactly happened here?” Han Yu asked for the second time, not taking Su Wenyue’s outburst seriously just yet. The issue needed to be clarified. Sikong Ling was clearly taunting his daughter-in-law, and if Han Yu took that seriously, he’d be a fool. He was, however, not pleased with Sikong Ling’s behavior.

“Han Yu, did you hear that? Look at your daughter-in-law acting like a lioness. She needs to be disciplined.”

“Han Yu, is this how you let people treat your woman?” Su Wenyue said, not waiting for Han Yu to respond. She decided to take matters into her own hands, but Han Yu caught her easily with one hand, and she could only stand there, fuming.

“Young Master Sikong, how to discipline my wife is my family affair, and you needn’t trouble yourself over it. Though my wife’s behavior may be a bit out of line, I’m sure there’s a reason. She’s always gentle and demure on normal days. She must have been provoked by some shameless person’s actions,” Han Yu said, his tone amiable yet mocking, clearly satirizing Sikong Ling as the shameless one. No matter the situation, he naturally sided unconditionally with his wife.

Su Wenyue was still angry from being restrained, but after hearing Han Yu’s words, she stopped making a scene and stood by obediently, waiting for him to defend her.

“Tsk, tsk, such a couple, defending each other so fervently. Forget it, I can’t be bothered to stoop to the level of children and women. I’m a busy man; I have no time to waste on nonsense,” Sikong Ling said, not lingering any longer, and walked away with nonchalance. He was a smart person and wouldn’t stay to face the couple’s joint reprisal.
