103 Who’s being sold? (1/2)
”You assured him? Are you even sure that the guy will be let off?” Han Jun asked suspiciously.
Han Mei pursed her lips as she was not sure herself. ”There should be a proper investigation, at least right?” She asked.
With a shrug of his shoulders, ”It depends. I did not hear the Suzuki Family being involved in any triad business, so they must have done things legally all this time. What's the poor guy's name, by the way?” Han Jun curiously questioned.
”He said he is Xia Wei.”
Han Jun raised a brow, ”Are you telling me he is Xia Wei working in the Suzuki Corp?” He asked, astonishment unmasked from his voice.
Han Mei nodded.
”Oh, then it is fine.” Han Jun nonchalantly said as he waves his hand.
It was now their time to be confused.
”JunJun, how can you be so sure?” Han Jie asked with a glare. Suzuki Kyou was acting so different compared to her first impression. How could she be assured that the guy won't bully someone because he is bored?
Han Jun looked at Han Jie with a pointed look before he gazes at his uncle, who was just quietly listening. Eventually, he finally spoke, ”He is from Wei Family. In terms of status, the Wei family is somehow at a higher level than our family.” Han Jun said it full of reluctance. His pride for being a Han was being hit and left a bitter taste in his mouth.
”Eh? Why is he in the Suzuki Corp and working then?” Han Mei asked, surprised.
”Why? Can't he do so? He can work there if he is qualified. Anyway, Suzuki Corp is in partnership with the Wei Family businesses too. Probably he is there in training or something.” He explained before he looked at Han Mei intently, ”So did you meet him?” He asked suddenly.
”I was at the Suzuki offices.” Han Mei said, her breathing was turning heavy. Her gaze refused to look at anyone as she choose to stare at her hands on her lap.
The silence that filled the was stunning and confusing. Han Feng looked at Bai Min.
”Can I have more, please?” Han Feng grunted out. His throat felt tight, and he felt like he couldn't breathe.
Bai Min was quick to comply this time around, bringing an extra glass and the whole bottle of whiskey. Han Jun was going to need it.
”What were you doing there?” Han Jun asked, his voice positively frosty.
Han Mei swallowed before answering in a small voice.
She was not the only one who did not like the atmosphere of the moment.
Han Jun accepted the glass that suddenly appeared in front of him blindly. His hands were shaky. Han Jun wanted to curse. To rant or rave. But all he could do was look at Bai Min gratefully before downing his shot.
”Why?” Han Jun asked, his voice husky and rough from the burn of the whiskey. Staring at his cousin's downcast face, Han Jun struggled to make sense of what was happening.
”Because I didn't want JieJie stuck in a marriage she didn't want to be in.” Han Mei replied, her voice still small.
”If you didn't want that, then you should not have ruined away without a trace!” Han Jun said harshly. His voice was a little louder than usual.
Han Mei looked up, her eyes flashing in anger.
”I left because I was tired. I was tired of being a good girl. I wanted a life of my own like JieJie had, and I was jealous of her supposed freedom. If you had let her go, I would not have come back until you had dropped this ridiculous nonsense. I didn't want to be traded as a commodity, but I most certainly didn't expect you to do this to my little sister,” Han Mei snapped angrily.
That was the best story that Han Mei could come up with. She was still not ready to tell everyone about her pregnancy. After all, not all in the room were family members. Aside from that, even though they would find out about her pregnancy, they would just feel bad for her.
Everyone stared at Han Mei, including Han Jie, her mouth hanging open.
