Chapter 159 - Song You Can’t Get Out of Your Head (1/2)

Qian Kun couldn’t believe it.

Chen Mo didn’t mention pseudo-random before, it was all Qian Kun’s idea. He’s a top math student afterall, and had a clear idea of probabilities.

There could be major differences between the probabilities of each draw for the players without pseudo-random.

For example, a free player might be able to draw an SSR, but a whale who spent thousands or RMB never managed to draw one. The more players there are, the more likely this would happen, and would be completely out of their control.

This was like leaving the most important economy system of the game to be decided by the heavens.

Qian Kun didn’t understand this move. He included a system like this for purple cards in I Am MT, but why wasn’t he doing the same for Onmyoji?

“Remove the pseudo-random, but include a system for rewarding someone unlucky.”

Qian Kun was shocked, “A system?”

“Yes, turn their unluckiness into a protection mechanism. For example, if they don’t draw an SSR for one hundred times in a row, refund a certain amount of jade. You can decide on the numbers. But basically, we won’t be doing the traditional failsafe, but we’ll use this system to refund some jade to the unlucky ones.”

Qian Kun was confused, “Uh, how is this better than pseudo-random?”

“It’ll help the unlucky ones find their lucky counterparts,” replied Chen Mo.

Qian Kun was speechless.

Chen Mo patted his shoulder, “Alright, just make the change. Keep in mind that we won’t do pseudo-random for anything that should be pseudo-random. If they players are lucky, good for them. If the players are unlucky, we’ll reimburse them in some other way.”

Qian Kun was still confused, but he made the changes according to Chen Mo’s specifications.

Chen Mo’s Onmyoji had two main improvements over Onmyoji from his previous life.

The reimbursement for unlucky players can be collected multiple times, and the amount refunded was much more. This becomes the failsafe mechanism, empathising the unlucky players and congratulating the lucky players at the same time.

He also included a sweeping function. When a player fully clears a dungeon, they could use the sweep function to save time.

These were the two biggest points the players of Onmyoji in his previous life were asking for. Chen Mo didn’t really think it was a good idea to add it, but he decided to anyway upon taking the relative ‘softness’ of the players in the parallel world.

However, Chen Mo didn’t decide on a traditional failsafe mechanism because the biggest fun factor of the game was its randomness.

(Not trying to make fun of the unlucky players.)

Su Jinyu was preparing the advertising material for Onmyoji.

“Manager, are we going to match Emperor Dynasty Entertainment in advertising? We should put out more ads right?” asked Su Jinyu.

Chen Mo shook his head, “There’s no need, they have tons of money but not many brain cells. We have money too, but there isn’t a point playing the same game they are. The key point is to have effective advertising. Let’s not lower ourselves to putting ads on video streaming websites.”

“Huh? How are we advertising then?” asked Su Jinyu.

“You can work out the advertising artwork with Hongxi for now. I’ll worry about our advertising strategy. If we plan on doing some pre-sales promotion, we’ll focus on artists, ACG+N groups, and cosplayers, we won’t be considering other groups for now,” answered Chen Mo.

Su Jinyu nodded and went back to work.

After planning, Chen Mo called Guo Feng.

“So is my song done?” asked Chen Mo.

“It’s done,” replied Guo Feng, “But I don’t know if you’re happy with it. It’s already the third version, we’ll have to grab another star if you’re still unhappy with this.”

“No no no, we can’t have stars singing this song, I need someone from the ACG+N community. Send me the song as soon as possible,” said Chen Mo.

“Alright, let me know if there’s anything you want to change.”

Chen Mo received Guo Feng’s video file.

Chen Mo put on his earphones and was happy that he finally found a singer he was happy with.

There wasn’t much difficulty in this song, but Chen Mo wanted the song to have a lazy yet gentle and loving tone to it, which was why it took him so long to settle on one.

The MV was made with models from Onmyoji. The scenes were great, the animations were smooth, and the editing was alright.

Chen Mo posted the song onto Weibo.

“Gokuraku Jodo, the theme song for my new game Onmyoji. Friendly reminder: This song is addicting, please use caution.”
