Why were they going so far as to lie and scheme so that Johanna would marry Agnes?

Well, it was closely related to Johanna's ability and history.

The only reason that scum on Earth was alive was the Charlotte family was backing him, and the end of a few animals and slaves didn't mean anything to them.

”You aren't losing on this deal. If you help her out of this abyssal pit and help her in her worst time, she would feel so grateful that she would serve you with all her heart. So ple—”

Elliot placed his finger on her lips and said, ”Let me finish first.”

Lisa stared at him, hoping to hear good news.

”However, for your sake, I will help her out.”

Kill one or kill two; it didn't make a difference for Elliot as he had already decided to climb to the top of the magician community with an iron fist and shatter it!

”Anything I can do for you?” Lisa asked.

”Two things. First of all, stop worrying about Johanna. Secondly, stay in the academy and prepare yourself to become my bride.”

”I understand..” She said as a smile blossomed on her face.
