Chapter 4: You Will Have To Die (1/2)

”Divination? You mean like a prophecy or something? No way...I am not that lucky as those protagonists in novels. Okay...fine. I believe it. What's the catch?” Evan queried as he knew reality isn't as good as how things happen in stories where the poor main character comes upon a treasure by coincidence and rises to power.

Aldress cleared his throat as his sharp eyes narrowed, ”You will have to die.”

”The fuck? No way! I knew it. You know what, old man or Address...whatever your name is...I am perfectly fine as I am, and you have my appreciation for considering me as a candidate to accept your legacy,” Evan, however, appreciated that Aldress told him the truth instead of lying to him.

However, Aldress' eyes were as still as ever as he said, ”Let me finish. Your death in this life has already been set in stone. Why don't you take a good look at yourself.”

With furrowed brows, Evan looked at the bullet wound from before, and his eyes widened when he saw that it was still bleeding!

Since he felt energized from Aldress' touch and felt no pain, he thought his body healed completely. But only now he realized how ignorant he was about his body's condition.

Weirdly enough, he was still losing blood, and even he didn't know how long his body would hold out.

Aldress continued, seeing the worried expression on Evan's face, ”The energy currently flowing through in your body is mine which is keeping you from dying. Of course, it's temporary since I am using my remaining energy to hold together my soul. You will at most last for another ten minutes, after which you would die before you could even realize it. But if you accept my legacy, you will be reborn in a new world and have the chance to become anything you want to. With my godly power, there is nothing that could stop you.”

With a perplexed expression, Evan slowly looked up at Aldress and, thinking that his death was imminent and this was not probably a dream. He felt as if he should take the last chance at life, especially when Aldress mentioned that it would be in a different world.

If reincarnation was a thing, he would anyway be reborn somewhere randomly. But now he could choose to be reborn with powers!

He asked, ”This divination...what makes me so special?”

Aldress slightly raised his brow as even he didn't know why this dirty mortal before him would have their name included in the divination he received.

He, however, replied, ”Child, this special power you have now is proof of that. You are the only mortal in this world with such powers. I have seen the way you tried to get rid of your killers, and your personality and intelligence are worthy enough for my legacy.

”To tell you the truth, divinations are not something you are supposed to question but to accept it as your destiny. Now” — Aldress summoned a globule of liquid as black as midnight and as small as a dewdrop from his glabella and towards his palm— ”take my Origin Blood and be reborn!”

Aldress' face also became quite ashen as soon as he took out his Origin Blood but however inwardly he was sniggering, 'Mortals indeed are so foolish. As soon as he receives my Origin Blood, I could easily remove his soul and take control of his body. Sigh...it's a pity I would have to spend at least a thousand years to regain at least some of my strength, but it's better than letting my enemies target me at my weakest.'

However, without the divination he received, he would never have thought a mere mortal without an ounce of power would be able to take in his Origin Blood.

If it was any other human in this world, he was sure their bodies would get disintegrated by his Origin Blood before they could even dream of assimilating it.

But Evan's eyes were glued to the eerie-looking Origin Blood on Aldress' palm, and he was completely oblivious to the thoughts going inside Aldress' mind.

On second thoughts, he felt that he was not ready to die yet, and with the offer of having a second chance at life, he never felt so tempted. He didn't even get to enjoy his rightful wealth and worldly pleasures.

But this weird-looking Origin Blood might change it all! He didn't really care about power, but if that was what it takes to take control of his own life, he didn't mind gaining it.

His eyes which looked lazy before, now became focused as he nodded with a serious expression, ”Fine. I accept!”

'Hehe, you are indeed a worthy sacrifice. Not many would even have second thoughts about accepting my offer. As expected…' Aldress inwardly snickered as he sent his Origin Blood towards Evan's glabella.
