16 The Village Head (2/2)

”Esteemed Father.” Eric bows down in respect as he presented Gray at the priest. ”This is Sir Gray Allister, the Elven Mage who saved me from the brink of death.”

”So you're the fabled man that I kept hearing about.” The priest nods, smiling in response as he turns his serene gaze at the Elf. Then, he introduces himself. ”My name is Theodore Grant, but you may address me as Theo for short. I'm the Village Head of Oakwood as well as a humble priest serving the Chantry of the Divine Gods. It's a pleasure to finally meet you.”

”Gray Allister, the pleasure is all mine.” Gray returns the welcoming gesture as they both shook hands.

Peering into the old man's status bar, all of the information that Theo reveals is now being shown.

”Gray Allister,” Theo utters the Elf's name as he rubs his chin in ponder. ”Your name does not sound Elvish, a human parent perhaps?”

Gray was caught off guard by the priest's statement but only by a little bit as he did not show his reaction clearly for them to take notice.

'Tsk, it appears that my name alone can bring up an unneeded topic, especially if I meet my fellow elves in the future.' Gray thought with a mental frown. 'A human parent, well it is true technically, so I guess I better go along with that.'

”Yes.” Gray immediately answers with a lie and started to feign grief in his next words. ”And they're both dead, I hope you understand if I don't want to talk much about it.”

'What?' Gray thought in genuine curiosity. 'So even lying is also based on Speech? Wow, the system sure takes the minor things even into account. I guess I better study more of it from the Codex if I have the free time to spare.'

”Oh, my apologies, I didn't mean to pry Mr. Gray.” Theo instantly responded in regret.

”It's fine, no harm done.” Gray nodded as they ultimately dismiss the topic.

”Anyways, I also do apologize for inviting you in such short notice,” Theo said. ”But I believe that you are the only one who can help us, a sign perhaps as envisioned by the Nature Goddess herself.”

”And how may I be of service then?” Gray crosses his arms, eager for a potential quest and its rewards at hand.

”You see, Three nights ago, I was granted a vision, a vision by the Goddess, Wynather herself.” Theo proclaims with unyielding resolve, much to the shock of Eric.

”Truly?” The Villager's eyes widen at the revelation.

Gray simply remains indifferent, already knowing of such cliche due to the games that he has played in the past.

”Of course.” Theo nods as he began to tell the tale. ”The vision spoke of a terrible Were-beast conjured by none other than the Wolf God, Fenrir as he brings the affliction of Lycanthropy within our lands. The vision further reveals an Elven Mage slaying the foul beast, bringing the end of the Wolf God's reign of plague in our region before it can even spread like a wildfire. As such-”

”Wait, wait.” Gray raises his right hand as he promptly interrupts the Priest on his speech. ”Elven Mage you say? You mean me, right?”

Theo nods at his query, resulting in Gray coming up with another question.

”Is it by any chance that the beast that you speak of is none other than the Were-rabbit?”

”Why, yes.” Theo's eyes widen, flabbergasted at how the Elf knows this. ”I was also going to tell about how the rabbits within the forest are acting violently as portrayed in my vision. Tell me, how do you know about this my child?”

”Ehehe, you see.” Gray chuckles sheepishly as he scratches his hair in a carefree manner. ”The Were-Rabbit, I already killed it.”

Theo and even Eric in the sideline are now seen with their mouth agape in unadulterated shock, their eyes widening with extreme astonishment.
