Chapter 104 - Focus On The World Around You, Not The Demons In Your Head. (1/2)
Treading water, Laz floated there while waiting for Kat to come up. When she finally did emerge, she tossed her head back, giving him a face full of water.
”Feel better?”
”Figured you needed to be cooled off. Didn't want you to bleed out of your eyes.”
”Mmhaa, I've seen better,” Laz couldn't help but act tough in this situation, but inside he agreed with her.
”Oh ho ho. So your not some sort of cherry boy after all eh?”
”Cherry boy?”
”Shut up. I spend too much time with my dad.” Kat said, looking a bit red. Even being naked wasn't enough to embarrass her, but for some reason, her age seemed like it might be an issue.
”No, It's fine. I hear it a lot at home.” He didn't mention that he was always surrounded by old guys.
”Really?” Kat asked.
”Yep. Actually, it was true till bout a few weeks ago,” Laz pointed out.
”Ah, look at you. Already getting busy so young huh? So what was her name?” Kat figured she could have some fun with this.
”Kennedy...”
”Interesting name.”
”And Malene,” Laz finished up.
”Eh? So, twice in a week?”
”Uh... no. It was at the same time.”
”Animal!” Kat couldn't help but be surprised.
”Yeah... I guess.” Laz seemed a bit down as he thought about the girls. Despite sending some texts, the later ones expressing concern, he hadn't heard anything back.
”What's wrong?” Kat had been treading water, but took a moment to allow herself to float. Although it was rather difficult with her muscular frame, it was still doable. The only problem was that most of her body was still slightly underwater while only her breasts and her head were above it. Laz couldn't help but wonder if it was those things that allowed her to float.
”Hey, come on and float a bit. And tell me about it.” Kat, seeing as Laz didn't say anything, didn't turn to look at him and therefore assumed he just didn't want to talk about it. Had she turned over, she would have noticed his gaze on her floaters and his half hidden smile.
Laz, hearing her request, just sighed a bit before laying back. He kind of experienced the same problem that Kat had, being that only his head and one other thing were floating. It was truly an amusing situation.
Laz proceeded to explain to her what had happened and what was going on with the girls. He kept it brief but explained clearly his worries. If anything, he was hoping she would have some insight for him. After hearing about his worries, Kat's face tensed up as she sunk into thought. Laz didn't know what she was doing and so he just waited patiently for an answer. It was a bit, but Kat finally replied back.
”There are many things that happens to a girls heart after her first time and every woman is different. From what you've said, they seem pretty close so I wouldn't worry too much about it. After all, the only means of communication they have with you is their phone right? So it could just be something involving their parents taking away the phones or something. Just give it some time.” Kat told him this to reassure him, but there were many things she wasn't mentioning.
Both Kat and her dad knew that lots of people who had developed powers were starting to go underground. In that case, the first thing to be destroyed would be past relationships and digital devices. Without either of those, it can make it difficult to find someone, even in this modern day and age.
”Anyway, the real reason we came here was for you to practice.” Kat said after letting her words sink in. Laz wasn't sure that he really believed her, but what she said did make sense. He kind of felt better after accepting that it could just be something as simple as that. It never occurred to him that they might not be in possession of their phones.
Of course, he then focused on the fact that Kat said practice and he started feeling a bit chillier despite the warmed water.
”Practice?”
”Yep. Practice. How long can you hold your breath for?” Hearing the question, Laz was confused, but he then heard a splash and seconds later felt a hand on his ankle, yanking him underwater. Taking a deep breath, Laz was pulled under by what felt like a rock attached to his foot.
