Chapter 103 - Breaking In (1/2)
Laz lost. Laz lost bad. Although Kat didn't bowl a perfect 300, she wasn't far off. Laz though? 135.
”AH HA HA HA HA... oh it hurts...” Kat was still laughing her ass off while sometimes doubling over and grabbing her side. She was amused, not because he bowled poorly, but because he took the bet so easily without ever considering how good or bad she was. As it was, Laz wasn't angry. In fact, he rather enjoyed her laughing. Of course, he was getting a bit embarrassed that she was laughing so hard, so loud while also pointing at him.
”Are you done?” Laz asked when she finally calmed down.
”Yep. I'm good. But still, you should have seen your face every time I got a strike. Magic.”
”Whatever.”
”Alright. Now, what to make you do...” Kat pondered for a bit but didn't say anything.
'I really have no idea what kind of crazy shit I'm going to be stuck with..' Laz couldn't help but think. After all, he normally had to do whatever she told him to anyway as part of his training. Adding on the fact that he lost the bet and will now be used for her personal desire as opposed to her professional one, Laz was getting a headache.
”Hey, I'm just wondering. What is your ability?” Kat asked with some hesitation.
”Is that you making me do something?” Laz asked, a bit taken aback. They had never talked about it before. It was like the elephant in the room that was there, but was ignored. Laz had a rough idea what she could do, but besides being strong and able to take a beating, Kat really didn't know anything about Laz's ability.
”No. I'm just wondering. You can guess what I can do right? It's pretty straight forward. But with you, it's different. I just can't tell. If it's a secret, you don't have to say anything...” Kat was acting painfully shy. Laz couldn't help but wonder if she was faking it, or it was real.
”It's not anything great. I'm just really strong and solid. Well that and...” with that, Laz circulated his energy as he let his blood boil. After going through it a few times, he had figured out a trick. Basically, his strongest form was when he combined the two things. Energy circulation was pretty easy after he gained a basic understanding. For the blood boil ability, it was similar to how when you get really pissed off, your body warms up and your muscles tighten.
Doing these two thing, Kat could see Laz's body expanded as his muscles became course and hardened. And when he looked at her, she could see his eyes glowing a bright blood red. It was both eerie and intoxicating. It was like standing face to face with a devil. Compared to how Laz usually was, this was a startling change. She had seen his eyes before, but she didn't pay much attention to them. With the two weeks of training he had undergone, he was even more firm and fit than he was before. It seemed like his aura had grown stronger and more menacing.
Kat didn't say anything right away. Instead, she forced a questioning look on her face as though pondering something. In truth, she was trying to regain her wits which had momentarily left her. After a few seconds though, she was back to her old self.
”So... That's it?”
”Uh... well, yeah?” Laz felt he knew himself well enough to know that his body must have looked fairly different than before. He thought that the change would be apparent. But seeing Kat's reaction, he couldn't help but wonder if he was over thinking things.
”You can't shoot lasers out of them or anything? Like, you know, heat vision?”
”...”
”Well that's kind of useless, isn't it. Still...”
”Still?”
”You seem to be the same type as me, an internal.”
”Internal?”
”Yeah. My dad's thoughts. He is an external, where in he projects his ability outside of himself. We are internals, as in our changes happen to ourselves. I become as hard as stone and you become a dollar store super hero knockoff...”
”Ouch. Still, it's not only that,” Laz started to hesitate. He had shared some of the info he had gained as far as levels go with Kennedy and Malene since they both were willing to listen to him. Kat was different. As his elder and teacher, he figured it would be hard to convince her of what the sexy psycho alien had told him.
”Hmm?” Kat seemed intrigued, thinking he had more abilities that he was hiding.
”It's nothing. I just, get this feeling like all of this is caused by some new energy inside of me. Because of that, it has started to change me. But it's not done yet. It can be strengthened. And once it builds up to the point of bursting, I should compress it down again and again... It's like, I've got instructions in my head for what to do for right now.” The context was true, but a few other facts were switched around. It felt better to do it this way than to lie to her or not tell her.
”Ah... so you know?”
”Know?”
”About the growth portion of it. My dad came up with a way to circulate the energy that would allow more to come into your body and make it stronger. At first, I was worried. If my body is already like stone now, what would happen if the power intensified? Would I become a statue? I didn't want to do it at first. But what my dad said was this: A persons body is naturally resilient to damaging change. Sure, changes like cancer can lead to death, but it's not like your body doesn't fight it. Due to this, he said that if your body is allowing it, it doesn't mean it's damaging in any way. It's just another form of growth.”
”Oh. that makes perfect sense.” Laz hadn't thought of it this way since it didn't seem scary to him. Of course, he was in a slightly different situation than Kat and therefore didn't have her concerns. But her way of thinking made perfect sense. He had heard the reports of a few who's changes had spiraled out of control and led to death. Although he didn't know the actual events behind them, he could see why some would think it better to not develop the power.
”Alright my little flash light,” Kat's earlier look of shyness was gone completely and her face had a wicked smile.
