Chapter 102 - Relaxing (1/2)
Have you ever felt that itch in your head that won't go away? Or maybe is a bit of pain that seems to be there but isn't connected to anything. It's not earth shattering, life ending or in any way debilitating, but it's more like a constant annoyance that you feel every moment of every day. Laz had been feeling this way for a few days. He couldn't explain why he felt this way either. At first, it was something he could ignore, especially when he was focusing on training.
Over the course of two weeks, Laz and Kat ran together almost every day without fail. Even when the weather starting getting colder and colder, they just put on a few layers. As it turned out, their bodies provided enough heat to keep them warm as long as the heat wasn't constantly escaping. As such, Laz got to experience I whole new level of thermal laced clothing that kind of resembled skin tight body suits.
They also fought constantly, giving Laz some much needed experience. When he first arrived, he could barely hold out for a time against Kat, much less fight her on even ground. But as the days wore on, Laz became better at learning her patterns and taking the instruction he was given on how to counter them and put it into use. As such, their fights began lasting longer and Laz would occasionally score a few hits on Kat. Even she had to admit his talent at fighting was rather splendid.
Of course, that did nothing but distract from the constant annoyance, not solve it. Because of this, by the time the second week was coming to an end, Laz started to become a bit withdrawn and kind of snappy in his mannerisms.
On one of their evening runs, Kat had been instructing Laz on how to deal with multiple opponents who had surrounded you. Although Laz was listening, his mind was somewhere else. When she noticed he was distracted, she jumped up and sent a round house kick flying at his back. This was her usual way of dealing with him when he wasn't paying attention. Basically, she would attack him and wake him up. After the first few times, he got the feeling of aggression from her and was able to snap out of it before he was hit. Today was not one of those days.
As the kick connected with Laz's back, he was sent flying forward and ended up face first in the dirt.
”And that's what happens when your ass ignores me,” Kat said as she stopped and stood over him. She had expected he would get up and either apologize or at least act sorry. Today however, he did neither.
Laying there, face down on the somewhat frozen surface of the ground, Laz just felt like not moving. He couldn't stop thinking about the girls and what they were up to. Considering how long it had been he hadn't heard a word back from them and he was worried.
”Oh, come the fuck on...” Kat bent over and using him like a sack of rice, pick him up over her head and set him back down as though he didn't weigh a thing. Had someone seen this, they never would have believed that a girl could be that strong who didn't look like a beast. But Kat could do it with guys twice Laz's size. After being picked up and set down like an inanimate object, Laz could no longer laze around.
”What the hell do you want? You knock me over and then get pissed when I don't get back up? Where's the fucking logic there and what the hell is your problem with it?” Laz had finally lost his cool. After a moment though of just looking at her in his pissed off mood, he realized what he had done. Sure, Kat was a bit of a pervert and kind of a muscle head, but she had also taught him more in the almost two weeks he had been here than anyone had before. She was patient, insightful and rather straight forward about everything. She was honestly one of the best teachers he had ever had.
Laz felt a bit bad. He also felt a bit nervous since he knew her attitude on these types of things. It went like this: Can't keep up? Too bad pussy. Laz had the feeling she was going to get mad at him. Strangely though, she just kind of sigh and looked at him before shaking her head.
”Alright, today's workout ends here. For tomorrow morning, sleep in, do whatever, but no practicing. Understood?”
Laz might have been wrong, but it almost looked like concern in her eyes.
'She's worried about me?' Laz thought. He knew she didn't hate him as much as she thought she was going to. She seemed to laugh and smile a lot when she was teaching him or messing with him. If anything, she was enjoying all this more than he was, of course he didn't really come here to enjoy himself, but to improve himself.
By the time they got back it was already late. Laz had tried to apologize and make like nothing was wrong, but Kat wasn't having it. She didn't argue with him either, but looked a bit down herself. It was a rather quiet and depressing jog back. Since it was late, Laz went into his room and took a shower before laying down naked on his bed. Looking out the window, he got a strange sensation of things starting to blur.
Standing up, Laz went over to the incense burner and lit a stick of lavender to help calm himself. He found that he quite enjoyed it and it helped him to relax, at least temporarily. Sitting down, he tried meditating as he had seen both Kat and Jon do, but he wasn't able to settle down. He saw them doing it the first time and asked what the point was. Jon told him it was to help clear the mind. Laz asked back if it was useful and Jon's response was to just smile at him. Although Laz had done something similar when he, Kennedy and Malene had all used the flower nectar and the pond water, this was something different.
He didn't see energy cycling through Kat or Jon. In fact, they both had slowed their heartbeats down so much that unless Laz looked closely, he might have mistaken them as being dead. Seeing as how they were both relaxed, Laz felt like maybe it was a good thing.
He just couldn't do it.
