Chapter 42 Pain And Growth (1/2)

The lights were just floating up into the air and dissipating, as thought becoming a part of the air itself. Laz had no idea what was happening, but he was strangely drawn to the golden colored nectar. He felt like his body had a yearning for it. It was kind of an instinctual draw that couldn't be explained. As he stood in the strange clearing, his entire body was almost shaking with anticipation.

But he was no idiot. Just because something looked good didn't mean that it was. This strange flower was obviously not something that had been recorded as existing on earth before. This was more like something out of a fantasy novel than something you would find in real life. He took a step back and spent a moment to calm his thoughts.

'What should I do?' He couldn't help but ask himself. Even if it seemed like he wanted it, he wasn't foolish enough to just go based on his instinct. Instead, he felt like he should figure a few things out first.

Ever since he had first started using his sense perception, he had kept it on at all times. The combination of his enhanced senses were always working now as opposed to before when he would turn them on and off so to speak. The benefits of this perception wasn't small and therefore he just started using it all the time in the two days he had it. He realized now that it actually took effort from him if he wanted to cancel it.

He slowed his breathing and closed his eyes. Like magically flipping a switch, he shut off his perception and then opened his eyes again. At this point, he could no longer see the green colored energy flecks or the glowing nectar. Instead, all he saw was a dark clearing that seemed completely normal. Compared to the heavenly sight from before, it was almost like stepping into a colorless world. He was now sure that this flower and nectar was something that was caused by the Yggdrasil tree, although he had no idea how this would have happened.

Since he had no reason to not use his sense, he activated it once again and immediately the clearing filled with the strange lights.

He walked forward again to the nectar and just stared at it for a few minutes before walking forward and reaching out. Although he didn't know what it was, he couldn't think of a way that it would be dangerous just by touching it. His body was many times stronger than a regular person and he wasn't that far from his home. From this, he drew almost a useless sense of comfort.

He still thought to be cautious though and only dipped the tip of his small finger into the shimmering liquid. He figured it he was going to lose a finger, it might as well be a minor one.

After dipping his finger in, he didn't notice any change and pulled it back. The nectar had a consistency like that of honey where it was a liquid, but it was very sticky. Although he knew he was being incredibly stupid right now, Laz couldn't help but bring his finger to his mouth and like it.

The taste could only be described as mind blowing. His body felt like it had orgasimed in a way that was one hundred times more pleasurable than masturbating. As just the little bit of substance went down his throat and into his stomach, he suddenly felt a small bit of heat spreading throughout his body. He didn't know what was happening, but his body wanted more.

Before he even knew what he was doing, he had stuck two fingers into the heavenly golden nectar and drew out a larger quantity. Without a second though, he stuck his fingers in his mouth and began licking and sucking as though it was the sweetest candy in the world.

The delicious treat once again flowed into his stomach, but this time the heat was far more intense than when he took the smallest taste. It spread out all over his body and he couldn't help but double over in mind numbing pain. His body felt like he had ingested magma while his skin had the feeling of thousands of needles poking him over and over again in waves of maddening pain.

As he hit the ground, he curled into a ball and started shaking. His body was actually faintly glowing the same color golden light of the nectar. The heat was felt like it was going to turn his insides to jelly unless he did something, but he had no idea what.

In a single moment of clarity, he remembered the small pond that was just a few feet away, and using all of his will power, he dragged his somewhat useless and wrecked body over to the pond. By the time he reached the edge of the pond, he had no strength left. It took the distance of about three steps to completely drain him of all energy and as he collapsed in front of the pond, he noticed it was strangely glowing blue.

He hadn't noticed it before since the light from the flower and the nectar were somewhat blinding compared to the light blue of the pond. But as he lay that in agony and looked at the water, he saw swirls of blue flumes coming off of the pond as though it was a chilled beverage. He probably should have been more cautious at this point, but he couldn't be bothered to think about the consequences as he moved his head over to the water and started drinking.

The pond itself was only about 10 feet in diameter and could barely be considered more than a puddle, but to a boy who was burning from the inside out, it looked like the most refreshing beverage he could ever want.
