The other is the ”series and parallel mode” of driving only by electric motor at low speed and driving with the cooperation of engine and electric motor when the speed increases. At start-up and low speed, it is driven only by electric motor. When the speed increases, the engine and electric motor share the power efficiently. This way requires power sharing device and generator, so the structure is complex.
The other is the ”series mode” of electric vehicles driven only by electric motors. The engine is only used as the power source, the vehicle is driven only by electric motors, and the driving system is only an electric motor. However, it is also a kind of hybrid vehicles because it also needs to install fuel engines.
At present, the widely used fuel engine vehicles have various disadvantages. Statistics show that under the road conditions accounting for more than 80%, an ordinary car only makes use of 40% of the power potential, and it will fall to 25% in the urban area. What is more serious is the emission of exhaust gas polluting the environment. Since the 1990s, the voice of countries around the world to improve environmental protection has become increasingly high, and a variety of electric vehicles have come to the fore. Although it is generally believed that the future is the world of electric vehicles, the current battery technology problems hinder the application of electric vehicles. Because the energy density of the battery is hundreds of times lower than that of gasoline, which is far from the required value, experts estimate that electric vehicles will not be able to replace fuel engine vehicles in decades (unless there is a major breakthrough in fuel cell technology).
Reality forced engineers to come up with a best of both worlds approach and developed a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The so-called hybrid power device is to combine the motor and auxiliary power unit in a car as driving force. The auxiliary power unit is actually a small fuel engine or power generator set. To put it vividly, the traditional engine is made as small as possible, so that part of the power is borne by the battery motor system. This hybrid device not only gives play to the advantages of long continuous working time and good power performance of the engine, but also gives play to the advantages of no pollution and low noise of the motor. The two ”fight side by side” and learn from each other. The thermal efficiency of the vehicle can be improved by more than 10% and the exhaust emission can be improved by more than 30%.
