Chapter 1349 Darrens Baby-sitter (1/2)
Emily looked at Jacob like he was an idiot. To be honest, in most aspects, Jacob was the most cunning and competent man she had ever seen. However, whenever he was faced with a matter concerning her, the man behaved like a fool. It was like he was reduced to a child's level where she was involved, but it was really sweet too.
Emily felt warmed in her heart.
”Boss, if I can't find the pendant, will you still reimburse me?” Sam sounded a little flustered. If he could not find it, Jacob would be furious. What was worse, his boss might refuse to reimburse him for the money that he had used to buy the pendant, which was a staggering half a million dollars!
At the same time, Sam felt lucky that he hadn't chosen the most expensive pendant, or he would have lost even more.
”Look for it! You had better turn this restaurant over until you find it!” Sam had no choice but to follow Jacob's order, for this would determine whether he would get the reimbursement or not.
Half an hour later, Sam appeared in the door to the private room with the owner of the tavern, holding the pendant in his hand. It was without a doubt the missing half-million dollar pendant!
”It was in the frying pot,” Sam answered with a helpless shrug, and the owner of the tavern nodded vigorously, but his eyes were nervous.
Actually, the pendant had not fallen into the frying pot by accident at all. The head chef of the pub was an avaricious character and when he had seen the pendant, he had deliberately thrown it into the oil pot. He had thought that the pot would be a good hiding place, since they were unlikely to look there. But as soon as Sam arrived, he had asked to search every corner of the pub, including the frying pot.
Of course, the assistant chef had quickly turned on the head chef, so that the man was immediately fired.
Besides the tavern was a small-scale establishment. If Jacob found out the truth, it would surely be closed.
Therefore, the owner had begged Sam to hide the truth.
But Emily was so sensitive that she instantly saw through the tavern owner's ruse. She said softly, ”It's really careless for your kitchen staff to have made this mistake. How could you leave such a valuable item as a pendant in the oil pot?”
”Yes, it was… It fell into the pot by accident when the chefs were frying chicken wings,” the owner tried to explain.
