Beryl gasped and then pursed her lips immediately. Hiding her sadness behind a poker face, Beryl said to Taylor, ”I know that Dylan is a good boy and you want him to be your son-in-law too! But I saw him first and I've known him for a very long time!”

Taylor's mouth twitched as she stifled a laughter. Instead, she smiled and supported Emily's words.

”Beryl, like your mother, I am not at school with Amy. So I don't know what is going on there. But I have noticed that Amy has been acting strange lately. Now that you've mentioned it, I think I know why she has been acting out. I didn't think Amy had a chance with Dylan at first, but now I'm starting to think she might.”

”Why?” Beryl looked concerned immediately.

”Dylan has the highest grades in the entire school. Amy wants to study hard so she can become as good as Dylan is. I heard that the school is going to pick the flagmen from the top students...”

Before Emily could realize it, Beryl had already run away. ”Mommy, I am going to study in my room. Don't bother me until dinner is ready!”

Astounded, Emily admired Taylor for how effectively she could get Beryl to study. ”I am sorry about that. Beryl is...”

Taylor smiled, concealing all her feelings, and said, ”Don't feel sorry. I have a daughter too, remember?”
