28 Hide And Seek (1/2)

I try to ignore the incoming storm as I look around my dark surroundings but I still can't see or hear anything. I look up and see that that the roof above me is high enough for me to stand so after checking all around me, I slowly stand and watch my step.

If I'm not careful, I'll fall right through the ceiling. There are paths made up here for service and maintenance so if I stay on them, I'll be fine. I snap my fingers and try to summon up a small flame but all I get are a few flickers.

I start slowly walking further in but when I see something move off to my left, I freeze. I carefully scan everything but because it's so dark, it's almost impossible for me to make anything out. If it weren't for my shifter sight, I wouldn't be able to see anything at all.

I suddenly hear a scraping noise to my right so I quickly turn to my right but just like before, nothing's there. It's playing with me... when I hear something behind me, I bring my blade up and swing as I turn but I cut through nothing but air.

Thunder rolls again, closer and louder as the first drops of rain begin to fall. The roof was now snapping and popping from the wind from the storm outside, making even harder to hear. ”Come out, come out, wherever you are...” I say in a singsong voice as I continue walking.

I hear laughter but it echos around the attic-like space and with the storm outside, I can't pinpoint where it's coming from. So it's not a Zombie... ”Why are you attacking the police station?” I ask looking around me with sharp eyes.

Another round of laughter as it says ”I made a mistake... I was following a scent but I later found out that it was the wrong person. I was angry and the bitches behind the counter wouldn't shut up... I then decided to have a little fun.”

Its voice is raspy and wet sounding... extremely unpleasant to hear. It made a mistake? Who was it after? I continue to slowly walk while scanning around me as I say ”Now you've made an even bigger mistake. Now I'm here.”

Laughter bursts out as thunder hits, nearly drowning out the laughter as it says ”A bigger mistake? No no no... Everything is right now.” Suddenly, it lunges straight at me! I dodge to the side and hit it with a glass marble.

It screeches in anger and swipes at the liquid acid eating away at its skin as I attack it from the side. I bring my blade down and smile viciously when the blade sinks into its back. It turns around so quickly that I can barely keep track of it with my eyes!

It backhands me and I go flying across the attic. I hit several wooden support beams and go straight through them until I roll to a stop. The ceiling below me gives way and the lower half of my body falls through the ceiling.

I hang on with gritted teeth and look up to see it running on all fours, straight for me! It's another possession! ”Eris!!!” I hear Harris yell my name from below but I ignore him and reach into my pocket to grab another glass marble.
