8 Chapter 8: (1/2)

I typed on my computer, the children laying down for their nap as I hacked into the database and searched for the name that the man gave me before I murdered him.

Luis Stewards.

That was the name of the man who tried killing me but mistook me for the child. I'm not sure how, but it didn't matter.

He sure as h.e.l.l wished he hit me instead now that he was dead.

Or well, brain dead at least.

”Come on,” I whispered, typing furiously when I pa.s.sed through several cyber walls with the help of a few friends in the league. They were too scared to deny my request or even ask questions which helped me out since I was after another target rather than my real mission.

Luis had told me that a woman called Terra Mandle had sent him to kill Faye due to some kind jealously since Zavier has been practically stalking me or well Faye. The name sounded familiar but I couldn't pinpoint it.

Honestly, the weirdest part of this whole situation was that Terra was, in fact, a vampire that Zavier shunned years ago since she had killed another woman. Had he connected the points that she could have made a return?

Well...

I gave him the file that told him with enough information to connect the points without exposing me in any way. Of course, he didn't like the method of how I got the information but he was going to have to live with it since that was who I was.

Though it was strange... His way of torturing me was different and it sure as h.e.l.l shocked me and not many can shock me that easily.

But right at the moment, it isn't the time to think about the a.s.shole. Right now I need to find this Terra and question her myself.

My mind went back into focus, looking at the screen with a series of codes flying past as if they were bullets while I leaned on my hand curious to how long this decoder will be.

As I stared at the screen, I began to think of Ajax and his new found mate. I couldn't help but be a little upset that he was leaving with her when we've always been together but I shouldn't let this hold me down.

I was better on my own anyway.

It'll be hard finding some kind of alibi to cover my whereabouts but I would figure it out.

I hope... I hope he will be happy with his decision.

A buzz came from my phone while I narrowed my eyes at it and grabbed it curious on who was contacting me on my a.s.sa.s.sin phone.

Yes. I have two different phones.

One for a.s.sa.s.sin work and the other as a cover for my missions.

I unlocked the phone seeing an unknown phone number texted me saying sorry for some reason. Not knowing what else to do, I set my phone down and closed my eyes to contact Ajax.

'Ajax. Answer me a.s.shole.' I growl into our mind link while examining the screen and seeing that the decoding was nearly complete.

It took him a few minutes to answer back and he seemed slightly distracted at the moment making me a little curious.

'What's up? I was working out and cleaning up my room.' He said, sounding a little irritated almost making me laugh out loud.

'You? Cleaning? That's new.' My voice hinted that I was being rude but in a humorous way causing him to huff through our mind link. This time I did laugh out loud.

'She's making me clean up.' He grumbles sadly while I leaned back in my seat and fumbled with my phone in my hand.

'Well... You are a mutt.' I shrug, knowing he would be all moody so I got to the point to why I was contacting him in the first time. 'Anyway. I'll get to the point why I contacted you in the first place. Did you give my a.s.sa.s.sins number out to anyone?' I ask him if he had no idea what I was talking about. Someone from the league sold me out.

If it was the latter...

This whole issue was going to be a hundred percent harder.

Though if it was just Ajax then I was going to kick his a.s.s tonight.

'Oh, that? Yeah. Zaiver asked me if there was any way to contact Xenon so I just gave him your number. Not like anyone can trace you to the phone since those geeks at the league made it for you.' He told me while I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose in irritation.

'That's not the point Ajax. That phone is specifically only used for my clients.' I growl at him though he seemed to not care at all. 'I'm going to stop by and pick you up tonight. There is some mother f.u.c.ker trying to kill me and I want my partner to be with me tonight. From what I know, she's a high-cla.s.s vampire.' I inform him as I watched the rest of the codes go through the servers only giving me a few minutes to find all the information I need. 'I'll send you more information, but try finding something out on your end. Until this job is over, you are my partner.' I told him seriously and scooted my seat back to the desk.

'Alright. I'll snoop around for now and ask Alex about the files. She should know something but she is super angry at you for cursing her so I'm pretty sure I won't get anything. But I'll keep you updated. See you.' He cut off connection before I could say anything else making me shake my head and zone back into what I was doing.

So it was Zavier who texted me...?

Weird.

Why was he saying sorry?

Did he mean to send it to someone else or something?

I thought for a second, wondering why he would have texted me but shrugged and turned back to the computer screen. Seeing it click several files open and ready for me to access.

A smile stretched across my face while I clicked on the first file.

〰〰〰

”Give me a second. I h”

”Oh no you don't,” I said, grabbing his collar and giving him a dark look. ”You gave my number out. You know that makes me angry.” I remind him, his hazel eyes looking into my red ones while Alexandra stood on the side still p.i.s.sed off. She's been in a rather bad mood since I got here, though I know why. It's fun to mess with her.

”Are we really doing this here?” Ajax asked me, motioning towards all the pack members around that were watching the both of us.

”Drop it and come at me. I'm in the mood for a fight anyway.” I told him, dropping my sword on the ground and taking several large steps back from him. Ajax smirked, dropping the box he was carrying and rolling up his sleeves.

He was so adorable when he thought he could win.

It made beating him twice as much fun.

”I'm going to kick your a.s.s this time.” He growled at me when I rolled my eyes and got into a defensive stance. I knew him well enough to want the first punch.

”That's what you say every time. Yet you never accomplish it.” I taunt making him narrow his eyes and lunge at me.

He went for a direct hit to my stomach when I jumped to the side and kicked his stomach causing him to huff in pain. Though he was recovering, he grabbed my ankle before I could retract my foot and threw me to the ground.

I hissed at him and kicked out his s.h.i.+n making him fall to the ground. He recovered quickly as I leaped off the ground and smiled at him. d.a.m.n wolves and their recovery period.

”I need to take this off. Give me a second.” I said, snapping my finger while changing my outfit into a more flexible form-fitting fighting outfit. Ajax rolled his eyes before unb.u.t.toning his long b.u.t.ton up s.h.i.+rt he was wearing.

”You are such a girl.” He teased making me narrow my eyes and hold my hand out to change his outfit for him. I'm only being a nice compet.i.tor.

”And you're such a chicken!” I laughed out, the transformation turning his clothes into a chicken suit causing several people around us to laugh as well. The atmosphere around us lightning up due to my magic embarra.s.sing him.

”a.s.shole.” He growled, s.h.i.+fting into his dark brown wolf and diving for me.

”Atque unguibus aureis!” I spoke in Latin, transforming into my claws while I jumped in the air and sliced at his back causing a loud snarl in pain. ”Try harder already! Or I'll turn you into a frog.” I taunt with a laugh, safely landing on the ground and turning around the face him.

The transformation spell disappeared and revealed my fine nails once again. We were both panting, each of us having different skills we excel in.

I excel in magic and he excels in strength.

Fair even match in my opinion, but I am more devious in battle. That's why I was brought into the league in the first place. Or so I've been told.

We both stared at each other, trying to detect our next move when I cracked my fists and motioned him to make the first attack. The people that were watching us seemed very interested which was strange because we were trained killers that could in any instant murder everyone here.

But not like I wasn't complaining.

I was going to show everyone that I could beat the Beta's mate along with a high-cla.s.s vampire.

This was going to be a good night.
